chennai - chingelpet
1 thirisulam, Chathurvedimangalam,Thiruneetru Chola Nallur, shiva temple dates back to the period of Kulothunga Chola I (1070 - 1120). later chola and pandya inscriptions
2 pallavapuram the first Palaeolithic tool in India was found in Pallavaram. It was also the first discovery of prehistoric artefacts outside Europe. that Pallavas once had their capital in Pallavapuram (Pallavaram). the earliest of their stone inscriptions is found in Pallavaram (Pallava puram) in a cave temple excavated by Mahendravarman I (600- 630 A.D.). The Pallavaram cave temple is now being used as a Moslem place of worship and the inscriptions giving the different titles of the king have been completely covered. the author of periya puranam was born in nearby Kunrathur
3 tambaram Tambaram is an ancient town referred to as Taamapuram in an inscription of the 13th century. Implements of Stone Age men have been found in this area and also large stone monuments of the Iron Age. mainly within the mcc campus
4 guduvancheri Around 300 B.C., there were people of the Iron Age living in this area and they built their burial monuments in the form of dolmens and stone circles which are called Megaliths these can be seen about 100 metres east of the Great Southern Trunk Road near Guduvancheri railway station.Near Guduvancheri there is now a small village called Nandivararam (Nandi puram) which must have been named after the Pallava king Nandivarman
5 singaperumal koil- a divya desam Japali, a Maharishi was in a state of penance and Narasimha Swami obliged him by giving him Dharshan as 'Ugra Narasimhan' after killing seen, that it was built nearly 1500 years ago.Since the Lord's idol is inside the cave, devotees wishing to go round the Lord (Pradhakshinam) have to do so by going round the hill.So 'Giripradhakshanam' is a speciality with this temple.
6 aala kachur across singa perumal koil is kachur where shiva begged on the streets to feed his devotee sundarar. padal petra sthalam. chetti punyam
7 parallel to kachur is chetti punyam.old temple with hayagriva who the god of learning on par with saraswathi. Hayagriva is an important minor-deity of the Budhhists - he is supposed to be the fearful aspect of Avalokatishwara (among others) and his neigh is enough to chase all ignorance
8 hill top temple before chingel pet- an ancient but small temple on the hills over loking kulavai lake just before chingelpet
9chingelpet fort where rebels of 1857mutiny were imprisoned
