a tamil I would like to meet.....
  • changed the topic

choose a tamil born earlier than 1900 that you would like to meet was the question tossed by GRS

    Grs has chosen valluvar

    i chose kalki

    sri chose kalki and barathi
  • Sri:
Unfortunately, I set the rules :-))))) So you have to pick one and only one. It is not easy sometimes, but that you have to pick either Kalki or Bharathi.

    ~GRS
ps: If enough people participate I will collect the data and summarize it.
  • Guru Arunagiri :-)
  • Thanks GRS

    Bharathi!!

I admire the man who challenged Lord Shakthi...Tell me why have you blessed me with such intelligence?'

    Krupa
  • The reason I like Valluvar is because of Thirukural. The three most important books I have encountered are ArthaSastra, Bhagavad Gita and Thirukural (alphabetically listed). I am sure there are other books by Indians. Another book in this genre but that of a non-Indian is "Art of War".

To me it is mind boggling that Tiruvalluvar could give such a great guide to life long long ago.

    Rules added:
#3. No arguments. So if somebody says they want to meet XYZ, that is it. Don't bother pin pointing negative sides to XYZ.
#4. And no changes, please. That is if you give your selection, you can not come later and say "ayooo.... actually I wanted to say ABC instead of XYZ."

    ~GRS
    ps: keep it coming folks......

  • good turn to the question'

what would you ask that one person you chose??
  • Kalki had made him the great lover boy , interesting and heroic....
But if you go into the past you might realize he was nothing more than veetoda Mapillai!
It was Kalki's pen which made Vanthiyathevan so lovable!
  • Hi Vairam

have you heard of a WHIPPING BOY

the rich in medieval europe could not be whipped in school. instead one boy from the economically weaker section would be whipped as a lesson

thats what hapened to poor v.d

somehow i get the inpression kalki wasnt too happy with narasimha portrayed as a love lorn charecter in SS.
if you see RRC in PS he is portrayed as a " above the normal feeling" lover.
so vanthiyathevan is brought in and performs all antics for our enjoyment

    venketesh
  • Hi Venket
'above the normal feeling lover'  yes, I've always had the question if he was really in love with Vanathi? (how could he?) . He just obeyed his 'Akkaiyar' like Casablanca.
When you said above the normal feeling did you mean the Love was not normal but was thrust upon him?
    Shobha
  • Hi Shoba

    yes
dont you get a feeling he was not deeply involved with vanathi as his sister wanted him to be.
and more than that his sub concious flares up once in a dream during a raging fever.
in comparison mamallans charecter is neck deep in love.
a huge change in him from earlier chapters to the end

gives me a feeling kalki wasnt too happy with mahendra's charecterisation
made him tread rather softly i PS written a decade later.
