on a private land was handed over to the Dharmapuri District

information to the Palakkode tahsildar, Duke Ponnuraj, on Wednesday.
Mr. Ponnuraj asked Mrs. Kamal to hand over the same to the district

    Value not known

The weight and value of the coins are not known immediately, Mr.
    Ponnuraj said.
  • stone age 'gold' coins? Doesnt make sense to me - or is it just me?
  • Times of India reported that the coinswere in Urudu Language. Hence cannot befrom Stone Age.
  • ridiculous.
stone age men are those who hadnt mastered metal working for basic
needs. why did he need coins?

and the coins are so round

    must be arcot coins.
somebody must write to reader's editor of hindu. but even then its
worth less. i once pointed out an error of s. muthiah's article on
1760 revolt in tamilnadu. the poligar revolt.
he had mentioned that kattabomman participated in it. i objected and
without verifying they forwarded my mail to muthiah who keeps
insisitng he is right. thoug data shows kattabomman must have been in
    a cradle at that time,

  • I find a lot of data errors in the hindu nowadays... makes me sick that we
losing another 'part of chennai life' to mediocrity...
  • As per TV news, the coins have urudu letters and belong to the muslim
    period!

The find came to light, after the mother and her sons could not agree on
sharing, and the villagers leaked the news to police.

The New Indian Express had reported these to be Mughal coins. Read about it on their e-paper, today's edition, page 5:
