As you are aware, a proposal to setup a nice proper website for the big temple has been made.I propose the following structure for the website keeping in mind that there are already many webpages about the big temple but none are comprehensive and exhaustive in details.
The domain for the site will be registered in a day or two.
The site will be in TWO languages : TAMIL and ENGLISH. The site has to be built in phases, and we need VOLUNTEERS to contribute for the cause. We need the permission of Varalaaru.com to use their images and articles liberally(and those images and content painfully collected in the PS group website).
The site shall not seek revenues in any form. The website shall be free from advertisements.
The below is just a rough draft, please pour in with your suggestions.
I've not been following this thread properly. Your idea seems to be great. A small suggestion from my side would be that while you enter the domain name make it something like cholatemples.com etc so that at a later date we can cover Gangai konda cholapuram also. Opinions welcome.
It is a very noble initiative because almost no website has proper or thorough info on bigtemple. It is a shame. We can include multimedia elements like audio and flash animation to make it even more interesting.
I look forward to see further developments in this project.
> should we not include > > "tanjore thro the ages" as a chapter >
Very much. The deterioration of Rajaraja to a leprosy patient (kirumi kanda choza) also speaks about the deterioration of a society at certain point of time in its long history
My suggestion is for the time being, we could avoid using Flash and Graphics, as it may cause some delay in loading (for eg., in Browsing Centers where the speed is low).
Also, I think nothing has been mentioned about Kalki and PS in the proposal...It'll be nice, if we can add a page dedicated to Kalki on PS.
Thanks. It is from you people that I expect content.Otherwise I'm just as good as a half baked bun. :D
Seriously, the site needs rights to use a number of varalaaru.com resources including pictures.
For example, we already have two panels to feature in the "stories in stones" area on varalaaru.com.
I have to write to the authors of the articles and the editors of varalaaru.com to seek their permission.
Venkatesh,
Yep.Too many controversies surround the big temple. We have to ask our experts for their opinion. Besides, I think we will make a mention about all those in the Big Temple Legends section. Therefore all sections would have their "version of the story" told ..and it would be for the reader to decide as to what the truth is.
and yes, we can always have those background music and stuff easily.
Gokul,
Thanks for the idea.I think a page or two ought to be devoted to the chola capitals since we will be focussing on chola art and architecture in the future. So yes, we could write a page for tanjore and uraiyur as well.
PS: I dont know to type in tamil. :-( So I would be thankfull to people if they can contribute the content in tamil.I can handle the translation.
Seenu,
Thanks :-) Looking forward to have you on the team.Another day or two to take in all volunteers and then we decide upon the job to be done.
can we make the site bilingual for a better reach.
articles on the following topics would be informative to the public
capitals of the cholas uraiyur, puhar( and how they were destroyed) thanjachan the asura who ruled over tanjai(legend) how cholas captured tanjore from mutharayars cholas first lineage and the second other construction projects of the cholas- (to show how great builders they were- mainly the dams. the family tree of the cholas rrc's sacrifice of the throne the cholas and chidambaram( the reason rrc chose to build an aakaasalingam) other achievements of rrc.finding the thirumurais links to translations and tamil etexts of ponniyin selvan. and what happened to tanjore after rrc.( the truth) the pandyas conquest and destruction of tanjore.
everybody rack your brains and think of topics soon
if we chose the topics soon we can allocate it to everybody and we can all start working.
