I would have made Vanthiyathevan prevent Aditha Karikalan reaching Kadambur. That would have turned the entire history upside down. Howz that???
I was reading God Father sometime back. Somehow, I kept thinking of the synergies between PS and this.
Arumozhi, the youngest of the three children of Sundara CHozhar took over the reins. Similarly Michael, the youngest of the Three, took over the reins of his father.
Adithya Karikalan was very rash and hasty in his approach. Doesn't seem to have a composed mind. Same is the case with the eldest son of the God Father. (Forgot his name)
Arumozhi spends a few years in a far away land. Similarly is the case with Michael who stays away from his father during his studies.
Well, there is no Vanthiyathevan in God Father. The period of the stories are completely different./ But still I couldn't stop wondering about these synergies.
>>>if you were allowed to make one change in ponniyin selvan( the novel)- > a major change what would you have done???? > > think about it. > > would you have let manimekalai survive and marry vanthiyathevan? > would you have let ravithasan be caught and hanged?
LOL. Sounds like the AU (Alternate Universe) fiction I and other fanfiction writers often attempt. Let me count the ways... I think I might - I **might** let Adhitha Karikalan live. Takes away the plot twist - but I think I would make it an assasination *attempt* , instead of outright murder. I can't reconcile myself to a Chola primce dying, yet. And I would make Adhitha Karikalan come to his senses, and announce that Arulmozhi is to be the next Emperor, thus paving the way for Rajaraja, without bloodshed. VD goes with Kundhavai. Nothing less for our free spirited knight. They *belong* together. And oh.........I would not, not, *not* marry off Vanathi, with her die-away airs, to our magnificent Arulmozhi. Gah. The Kodumbalur Princess she might be, but a more droopy heroine I've never seen. Give him a Poonghuzhali, now. Why would he marry 13 other wives, then?? She'd rip him apart if he did. {grin} Although that mightn't be good for politics... But hey, this is an Alternate Universe. My 2 paise, folks. :-)
Surely I wouldn't have let Manimegalai die. Shez just a goat in the middle of foxes.
If VD can marry 2 more wives after Kunthavai, then y should n't he marry Manimegalai...bcos of her luv with VD she faced all the problems...and still the song that Manimegalai sings revolves around me with tears...
when Sunil Gavaskar was pointed out of the super speed bowling pattern of Andy Roberts before the commencement of test, he replied "Andy will be doing most of my job; I have to just divert the ball".
Think you chipped in and beautifully did this in the group discussion - Channelising enthu mail stream!
It will be very much interesting to watch the heavy flow of mails under this subject.
AK's survival, 15 yrs rule of AK and 15 yrs of Uthama & Arumozhi marrying Poonguzhali ! _(without inscriptional support!)
I completely agree with you. Thread topic partha udan, naan ithan ninaithen, Venkat-um oru choice-a koduththitaar.
Manimegalai is such a passionate character. enakku ninaikkave romba pavama irukkum. athuvum antha paattu, it is too good.
I guess all the songs in PS that are sung by Manimegalai and Poongkuzhali were written by Kalki himself. MS ammavakku avar 'katrinile varum geetham' ezhuthinare, athu pola Hh shld have made her sing these two songs. devaragama irunthirukkum
VD joining hands with Nandhini & co eliminates AK without coming into direct picture (at the same time liasing with Kundhavai, betray her, eliminate AMV) thereby ruling Chola kingdom....
even now am mailing from a browsing centre in my village( yes swetha its a pandya naattu browsing centre only)
uthama's rule was not a waste. it was the asthivaram for a mammoth empire later. a lull from infighting amidst the second level chieftans. a consolidation of power
and as one side of history says rrc could lay the foundation for an overseas empire in these years. a main reason why hinduism spread all over the far east also the inter sea commerce seems to have stabilised in this period. not to mention the temples.
imagine the scenario when uthama dies he leaves a land of peace, a treasury which is full and an energetic and experienced heir ( rrc).
perhaps uthamas rule can be compared with narasimha raos rule. i for one beleive that 100 years from now when some body writes the history of our country they would call n. raos rule of 5 years the turning point. i personally feel the cholas matured in uthamas period. it was an important phase in their evolution.
