facts and fiction
  • well, looking at the discussions like the one on uthama sola , to
kalki it seems like a habit
but then kalki not only did this in ps. where uthama was created out
    of a flower boy.
in sivakamiyin selvan he made the pallava king ( a known hindu baiter)
    into a shiva baktha.
whom do i beleive appar or kalki?
    appar says
    katrunai puutiyor kadalil paaychinum
    natrunaiyaavathu namachivaayame
as an affront to the pallava king who tied him to a rock and cast him
    into the seas.
in order to make the main king of his novel a good man in the eyes of
the public kalki has changed the charecter of the pallava.
  • Dear all...
    >>>>>>>>in order to make the main king of his novel a good man in the eyes

    Huh???
Good God, no. As far as I know, Kalki hasn't 'changed' anything to make it
appear as though Mahendra was 'good'. He truly was an exceptional ruler. He
followed the samana tradition in the beginning, true - but he also had a
change of heart, witnessing Appar's staunch bhakthi.
    My 2 cents.
  • as long as he lived appar dared not go into pallava or pandya land
    lived in neutral cudalore.
  • sorry all

    i checked up just now.

appar paid a visit to kanchi enroute to kalahsthi o n his ultimate
journey to himalayas. it must have been in the time of narasimha
    palavan. for appar outlived mahendra.

but he seems to have stayed away from the jain dominated pallava and
pandya lands for quite some time in the middle.
even tried to dissuade sambanthar from going into madurai

for which sambanthar sings the veyuru thozhi pangan.

  • Dear Venkat
think Mahedra Varman was a converted Saivaite during the SS storyline because Paranjothi comes to Kanchi to join his Mutt...
appar himself is present during Sivakamis second aranmgettram and wishes her and Narasaimhar...
  • Dear sri
not only sivakami's second dance but kalki keeps coming back to
appars stay in kanchi even in parthiban kanavu. that must be 20 years
later( narasimhan has married and has a daughter by then)
i will check it up again but i remember sekilar is very vocal about
the levels of torture that appar had to endure, elephants, lime kiln
and finaly a trip to davy jone's locker.
and then with t he stone pillar appar lands in cudalore and spends
most of his time in the lands between pandyas and pallavas.( both of
    whom are jains)

mahendra turning a new leaf is also mentioned in other texts where
the king goes to thiruvathigai and falls at the saints feet.

mahendra's grandson rajasimhan is a confirmed shaivaite. where he
builds the kailasanathar temple. the incident of pusalar and the
temple in the mind happens then.

but then sri, the era was in cruel times.

people freely persecuted the followers of other faiths.

pandya nedumaran( brother in law of narasimhan) freely killed hindus
at the instigation of the jains and once converted to hinduism
started impaling thousands of jains on stakes.
other than lowering the population of his country he got his wife and
    himself a place arupathi moovar.

Rajasimha was not Mahendras Grandson. Mahendras grandson is Mahendra
II. Then is Prameshwara I and then Rajasimha. So Rajasimha is Mahendra
    I's great great grandson.

Scholars, correct me if I am wrong.
  • yes sir
    you are right
    pusalars contemprory was mahandra-2's grandson.

  • I guess Sandilyan's "Raja Thilagam' is spinned after
Rajasimha Pallavan. It is a good story though.
