tanjore named after an asuran
  • yes and mainly for swetha to note that its a rare phenomenon to name a
town after an asura but tanjore was.

and that may give rise in its residents, the ferocious ambition that
    the asuras were known for

but swetha get one thing straight
if mathuranthakan wanted the throne for himself it was perfectly okay
by any standards.it was his by right. sundara's sons were actually a
    generation away from the right.

can swetha throw some light on what uthama chola's son did and why he
did not ascend the throne after uthama, paving way for rrc?
    was it a deal?

  • I have some ideas about that which I wanted to write up as a story/play :)
Unfortunately haven't found time for that *sigh*

  • Dear Swetha
Interesting facts just a few observations

Theres another reason for Thanjavur being called Thanjai....or so I have heard...its because its surrounded by cool green paddy fields Thanmaiyana Nel vayal kalal sooolnthu kulirnthu irunthathaal than..sei yur...Thanjai...

now something, none of these people right from Paranthaka are
the rightful heirs, if you think the eldest son gets the throne. I
have read somewhere that Aditha Chozhan had a queen from Ganga nadu.
The son born to her was the eldest. Our dear Paranthakan - the
heroic warrior who fought sitting on the shoulder of two people - is supposed to be the second.

The one who fought on the back of two warriors was the great Vijayalaya Chola....

I believe, the elder one - Kannara Devan is his name, I guess - and
Paranthaka fought for the throne in Aditha Chozhan's last days.

Any evidence for this is the first time I am hearing this
Its a bit unbeliavable beacuse it was this time that the cholas were consolidating their position after defeating the pandyas and pallavas if they had infighting surely one of these bigger powers would have easily crushed and taken over them....
  • Forget places, even gods are named after/b'coz of Asuras

    Kesave - Destroyer of Kesi
    Madhusudhanan - K of Madhu

Even Mathura is name after an Asure -Check UttraRamayana, I believe
    Shatruguna conquered Mathura.
