Hi All, I am new to this group. I just finished reading the 5th chapter of Ponniyin Selvan. This book is "un putdownable" I kinda reckoned that Kundavi Prati and Vandhiyathevan will get hitched. I can call myself a "Meendum Pirandha" Tamizhan. I just re-discovered the beauty of Tamil literature, poetry and culture.
May be they should make a movie of classic.

Regarding Vandhiyadevan and Kundhavai its a shame we dont take them in the same note as Ambhikabathi amaravathi romeo Juliet Laila Majnu May be because they were sucess stories.... The subleness of his romance is Kalkis strong pint as opposed to Sandilyans more physical nature...
As far as Poonguzhali may be That might have been his inspiration to both Poonguzhali and Sivagami
As far as Nandhini,Sivagami and Seetha....I think the only author to do justice to the Enigma that is women is Kalki Nobody can predict their next move whats in their mind and so on
Vengaiyin maindhan states VD was very powerful something like Periya pazhuvettarayar in Rajendras Cabinet but whether it was evidence based we dont know...
Even in "Mannan Magal" Sandilyan quotes that Rajendra takes very important decisions after consulting with Vandhiyathevan. He also adds that VD played a significant role in Ganges expeditions.
But, this looks a bit strange w.r.t PS. In PS, Kalki potraits VD as elder than RR by age. But, just a few years after Rajendra ascended the throne, RR died. How could VD being elder to RR, survived after that and helped Rajendra ?
Did Kalki or Akilan or Sandilyan miss out anything ?
VD must have been elder than RR as he was married to RR's elder sister. Uder normal circumstances, VD would have been elder than Kundhavai and hence elder than RR too. We are not sure if VD was very powerful during Rajendra's regime. If only he had a reasonably long life he could have been an important member of Rajendra's cabinet. However, one should confuse facts with fiction.

VD was older than RR logic because he has to be older than kundavai and hence older than RR But there is nothing preventing a older person living longer than a younger person...RR had the stress of Rajyabaram VD didnt.....Just assuming RR was a poligamist VD was a mono or possibily bigamist that may well be another reason
