History and Heritage Quiz
  • Dear friends

The nations future and preservation of heritage is in the hands of
    our youngsters....

May I suggest a new way to creat awareness...

We conduct a History and Heritage Quiz and air in the satellites

    Plan

We have various rounds in Schools in each districts it will be
written and alll the schools can participate.

Each school selects X number and they go to the district level

Finally a grand finale in Madras

We can contribute and collect money for promotion and advertisements

the topics can be all forms of art, history of tamilnadu etc

if we can manage it and telecast it then it will really create an

    interest among the younsters

Next is trageting all the colleges in the city
like Euphoria..technofest....rendezvous etc and having it in colleges
    as well

    What do you think

We can have our own website so people know about it???

    Any thoughts

    Sri
  • Dear Sri,

Wonderful Idea. However, it requires buy in from people on the ground
(that is, in India). How about it Folks? You can put my name down for
volunteer for preparation of Questions etc.
  • Dear SPS
Kalki may be the best option because Vikatan and Kumudam have now become more cinema oriented.....
But will they reach the younsters so we have to think
Second rather than have the quiz in halls maybe we should have in historic sites like mahabalipuram and thanjavur

    what do you think

    Sri
  • Dear SPS
    Dont let your heart bleed...
    Theedhum nanrum piran choli vaara.....
I have given up encouraging people to participate if they are interested they do..

Very interesting to read about the Budda idols just shows the magnitute of the havoc...but it hurts to know that people use that tragedy to play power politics....

    All I can remember...is bharathi
Sontha sagothararkal thunbathil saagakandum sindai irangararadi kiliye....#

Lets continue what we can do

    Sri
  • Dear SPS
I understand your feelings. But the ground
reality is different. Everyone loves history and our
past glory. Everybody wants to ammend all the
mistakes done while teaching history. But in
practical life very few can act on that. Something
else - the needs of daily life -take up the place. If
I have to choose between earning bread for my family
and correcting something wrong in history that is
being tought in school , I would ......

Well things are not realy that bad, otherwise I would
not be reading PS, join a group which is intrested in
    history.

Let us hope more and more people join the 'movement'.

Let us hope things will change for better.
  • Dear SPS,

We can fully understand your feelings and accept your points. What
you say is correct. But as Saravanan pointed out, due to practical
reasons all 500 members cannot participate in such movements.
First and foremost thing, many people, including me, dont know what
to do. When we come across such situations, we dont know whom to
approach and what to do. Even if, out of interest, we move forward,
an individual do not have the much needed backup. To be precise, do
you think it would have been possible for me, as an individual, to
have met and interacted with people like Rajavelu of ASI? Never. Only
through our mentors like you,Dr.KK etc. we come across such people.

What I am trying to say is, please dont get discouraged by poor
response. What you people are doing is something great, which others
cannot do. Show people the path, and I am sure there will be good
number following. If need be you can send out a mail calling for a
meeting at some place where the interested people can meet and
    discuss.

Not responding at one point of time doesnt mean there is no
involvement. Due to various reason, a person might not be abel to
contribute. I take the trip we made as an example. When the plan was
told, people like me, Shankaran,Sasi,Sriram,et.al, the first timers
were immediately ready to join the group. But only after going there
we came to know that almost everyweek(or rather every month), the
varalaaru team goes for a trip. We were a bit puzzled by this and
asked why other trips are not told to the group. We were told that,
initially they did, but since no one joined, they stopped circulating
the news. If you remember, when we decided for the first time, to
meet and discuss about small trips, at marina, last december, few of
us joined, and Shankaran and I along with Kamal made a trip then, and
again we both joined for the Tanjai trip. Only if what is being done
is spread or shared, things will happen. I may not be as dedicated as
varalaaru team, but if I know, I can join them atleast 25% of the
time. Atleast 25% participation is better that nil participation.

So, if you tell people what to be done, atleast a few will respond.
Probably the same set of people cannot contribute everytime. Each
time a new member will surely be interested. So after a long run, we
can see that all 500 of us had contributed atleast something for the
cause. Ramar palathula anil seva sencha madhiri......you people
continue to build the paalam, many 'anils' will join you.
  • Dear SPS,

I am reading the PS mails after a week and found that you are sickened
by the poor response from the group.

Even I do agree with Satish's statements. Taking initiation for a task
is not an easy step. And, it is highly risky to take initiative in
unfamiliar tasks. Not all can take initiative in every task.

I believe that you have broad and deep knowledge in history as well
good exposure with ASI and the scholars. So as Gokul and Varalaaru
    team too.

Hence, when u put forward your first step, definitely many of us will
be behind to follow up. So, do step up as we have a long way to go..

And I am here in Bangalore(West Zone) with lot of enthusiasm to take
part in the role of educating the younger generation with the
actual/correct history. Please include me in every step of the
    'History Quiz' movement.

    Neenga Koodu poodunga...Naanga road-ey poduroom... :))
  • Dear SPS,Arun,Suganya,
    Thank you for the encouragement...

I have always loved Quiz when I was a Kid in Thanjavur and It was a
big thing to go to district level and win the prize Like wise It used
to be a prestigious thing to go and represent the school in various
    competitions
Thas why I am saying we should target schools & Colleges

    Its only the beginning

    Tamil History & Heritage Quiz

1.My plan would be we all pool in questions on History, Heritage,
Tamil Culture and so on into a bank
We pool all pictures and images we can find(In both Languages so that
we can do it in both the Quiz Masters will address each question in
    tamil and English)
    2.We develope awareness(Adverts,Netmails,Schools)
3.Traget timing .We decide on a timetable and work towards it
4.Start off with the written aspect with the support of Local CEOs
Chief Education Officers so That we know all schools are represented
I would imagine we should target IX or X1 students with XII they may
    concentrate on public exams
    5. We have a final for every district with children selected on the
    basis of screening.
6.Then we divide them into five zones
(Madras ,North,South,East,West,Out of State)and each district
finalist will compete for zonal finals
7.The final will be in madras with zonal finalists

    School (2 per school)(Written)

    District (2 Per District)

Out of State ……… Zone ( 1 from
    each zone)

    Final

The other thing is to develop a website with this quiz which people
    can access like this one
    http://www.geographyolympics.com/

Which will allow people to access things and try on their own.
We then make this an annual event.

The screening has to be done with atleast 150 questions

The Quiz should have four sections
    History
    Heritage
    Language

    Each section will have a
    Question and Answer Section
    Image Question
    True or False Question
    Rapid Fire section
