End of discussion--fair game is needed
  • As long as hinduism was the target the debate went on. But once
Islam and christianity were pulled in, the debate ends. That too
after raising questions about Krishna not controling evil and saying
krishna as just a character in mahabharatha.I dont know if other
religion's holy books will ever be called as fictious by the people
who criticized mahabharatha and ramayana. If they do that also I
    would call it fair.

In future what do we do?Do we criticize all religions or stop
criticizing all religions in toto? Some fair standards are
needed.Just criticizing one religion isnt fair.
  • Dear All

Just before I offer any reasons or explanation I would request you to
    visit this link

    www.http://forumhub.com/tnhistory/19000.14.04.44.html

If you cant go to google and try rajendra cholan and it ll be third
    or fourth in your list.

I did not want our group and discussion to go that way!!!!

I am sure thats what would have happened next....we all are human...

My blood boiled when I read that but I refreained from posting any
response...some of you may choose to...

Thanks SPS for echoing my sentiments and trying to justify and defend
me....Atleast one person saw what i meant

My intervention was right maybe timing wasnt right that was largely
due to the fact I was not accessing the www with my little one in
    hospital.

I did not end the discussions when other religeons were discussed...

One of the mails discussed about the greatest holocaust of hindi
    assaault by muslims....tipu's secularism!!!.....preventing animal
creuelty in hinduism is better than killing kafirs....

    Did I stop ypu there....

Did I stop you when people were patronised for eating beef as hindus?

Did I Stop you for ridiculing people about their knowlegde of their
    religion?
    I didnt

I said enough is enough when we started upsetting our own
freinds....I used to go to Station anjeneyar koil and big temple
every Thursday Mariamman Koil every Sunday...

I still pray with the same fervour My wife on the contrary believes
there is a supreme God which I give forms reciting one slogam for
anjeneya and one for balaji and one for murugan.....But thats how she
sees religion this is how I see it....

You have to respect,.....I cant say

So it was written...So it shall be done

Every one has knowledge...its how you impart the knowledge that
    matters

We were slagging political outfits left right and centre....

Till two days before I didnt even realise what you guys were implying
when there was mention about murder inside temples.

TUBELIGHT!!!!No I was away from the TV and Web

Discussing such sensitive issues is unwarrented....

    Priya and natesan
my closing remarks were People distorted the original religeon...The
Vatican in Christianity,The Caliphs in Islam and the Laeraned in
    Hinduism.....

So I was using a fair standard ...I agree with you all about uniform
    civil code...

I am a strong believer in the story?myth?Reality that Jesus laerned
    about hinduism and preached it.....

There are two ways of looking at anything...but remember we do hurt
others unknowingly because of our love for what we believe in....

    Then theres no regreatting

Why did I not stop it in the beginning?
    Two reasons
I thought the members would use a fair judgement as it was a elite
    group
I ws not in a mental frame of mind to write a detailed mail and didnt
have the oppurtunity to read all of them

The respect and love I have for Krishna is personal but I still think
it had a strong vaishnavite sounding tone as SPS rightfully said

So there you go my freinds
  • Dear All,

If I can add my tuppence worth to this. I was remarking to my dad just
the other day that this group is probably the sanest that I have been
part of. I told him that the discussion on temples/hinduism was being
done in a very mature manner. I must compliment everyone on trying to
have a mature dialogue rather than the usual forumhub.com diatribes.

Having said that, I must also say that it was probably a good idea to
stop it since it "could" have got more acrimonious. Also, having seen
Sridhar Rathinam's posts on this newsgroup (again I do not know the
gentleman personally), he has always struck me as being very
fairminded and I don't think people ought to jump to "partisan"
conclusions regarding his timing in stopping this discussion.

We have tons of other topics to discuss and with the incredible
knowledge that the members of this group have demonstrated, I am sure
they will be as fulfilling, if not more.
  • Dear Sridhar,

while agreeing with you that bringing religion and other divisive issues in
a literary group is not helpful, I was thinking that the discussion was
    proceeding with the right spirit..

It was good to know differing viewpoints.. I don't buy the argument of
stopping the discussion because it will hurt people' sentiments or
religious beliefs.. Galileo said "earth revolved around the sun" and hurt
the sentiments of religious catholics.. who sentenced him for life.. Truth
is more important than respecting religious beliefs..

Having said that I close my arguments..
  • > My intervention was right maybe timing wasnt right
    > that was largely

I am happy that somebody stopped this thread atleast
now. I have been reading all the mails with full care
but did not participate. I know this would lead to an
explosive situation. This has happned many a times
earlier.. during college time... during coffee time in
    office.... many times.

I feel this kind of arguments will never end and not
    do any good to anyone.
