Karthigai Deepam. One of the oldest festival celebrated by Tamils.

1. Agananooru 141 by Nakkeerar describes-

அம்ம வாழி, தோழி ! கைம்மிகக் .....
....மதி நிறைந்து,
அறுமீன் சேறும் அகல்இருள் நடுநாள்:
மறுகுவிளக் குறுத்து, மாலை தூக்கிப்,
பழவிறல் மூதூர்ப் பலருடன் துவன்றிய

Madhi Niraindhu - Full Moon, Aru meen - The star which is an union of six ( Indian knew that the star is actually a union of 6
stars) ie Karthigai - Serum - join together ie on When the star
Karthigai joins with full moon, When the entire village light the street with lamps and decorate with garlands and the old village celebrates, your
thalaivan will join us.

2. Natrinai song 202 refers as under:

3. Kar Narppathu song 25 - Describes the lighting of lamps on Karthigai day -

தோழி தலைமகட்குப் பருவங்காட்டி வற்புறுத்தது

நலமிகு கார்த்திகை நாட்டவ ரிட்ட
தலைநாள் விளக்கிற் றகையுடைய வாகிப்
புலமெலாம் பூத்தன தோன்றி சிலமொழி@
தூதொடு வந்த மழை.


4. Kalavazhi Narpathu song 17 mentions Karthigai Deepam as

Some people say the following Pazhamozhinanooru song also refers the custom of lighting a lamp atop the hill.

In fact women were named as Karthigai in Tamilnadu. Silambu - Maduraikkandam - Madurapuri deivam tells Kannagi the story of Varthigan
