The reason is totals and marks to secure a good group if the government didnt include the linguistics marks in the grand total of X std then most kids wouldnt go to french and hindi
because in X std level for french or hindi all you learn is at the level of 4th 5th std tamil equivalent on the contrary the X tamil is queit exhaustive
the education system forces people to go to other options...this culture which was only in the big cities is now catching the lesser towns thanks to private education
hi sri i was one of them, but that was my own choice. i found it too difficult to cope with the demands of my tamil teachers. i was alienated very much frm tamil becos of their attitude, they were kinda over zealous. but thank god to my parents for makin me read more books while i was a kid, i m still able to read and write in tamil.
