Dynasties that never lost a war--more proof(reg gokul)
  • Hi gokul,

It was just an article in fun.But i did not mean their dynasties did
not lose a battle.I meant a war.Even Lord Krishna lost many wars
with jarasandha.A decisive war settles the issue once for all.For
example second world war,war between abarajitha and aditha chola, war
between pulikesi and narashima pallava etc.

Parameswaravarman lost the battle and ran to lower chalukya country
(andhra),raised an army and defetaed vikramathithya chalukya.Legend
has that vikramathithya chalukya ran away like a begger wearing torn
    clothes.

In the war at thalaikottai ,rajathitha chola died a warriors death
after being cheated by boothuka. But ponniyin selvan says cholas ran
away and pazhuvettaraya regrouped them and stopped rashtrakoodas
after kanchi.Anyway my article wasnt scientific or research
    based.Just wild guesses.
  • Hi,

    That is interesting ..

Gokul .. with his varalaaru.com association - is bound to dip these
things in the acid - no doubt.

Mr. Srihari has sent so many mails on dyansties and contemporaries
and dumped so much of materials which we did not analyse at all. I
see now freshers taking more interest in these matters.

It may be useful if the details in Srihari's mails are compiled like
a Tender document - with comparisons of contemporaries - we should be
able to look at History in an organised way than at fragments.

May be varalaaru.com team also should take a closer look on these
    things.

I also know it is easy to say that certain things did not happen than
to say certain things did happen. In such cases, the burden of
proving vests with the person who put forward the postulates.

Rather we can view things to generate more options ..

Some one from the Group can comparise and state :: how many months it
took to have our first 100 members, how many to 300 to 400 and how
many from 400 to 460. I think we are drawing more members of late ...
    varallaru of PS group !

When some of us spoke to Dr. Nagaswamy about a year back - he
suggested us to work on the ONE RUPEE coins issued by the Government -
to get the Varallaru of coins for about 50 years.. Of course it was
not appealing to me at that point of time - since I was obsessed with
    Chozhas History.

Last Sunday when I happened to see the song sequence "Naan
aanaiyittal.. " by Dr.MGR in Engaveettupillai, it rolled back
Varalaaru of last 30 years in Tamilnadu right in front of my eyes!

Likewise, member seems to be having special eyes for varallaru ...

Looking forward to have more postings.

  • Hi priya,

When it comes to krishna losing battles to Jarasandha, the tactics krishna used was noteworthy. The first time when Jarasandha was out to capture krishna to avenge the death of kamsa's death, krishna and balarama fled overnight from mathura. Jarasandha was forced to follow him with his army. But the flight of the army was very stressful, and krishna used guerilla warfare and with the help of a garuda tribes, actually overpowered Jarasandha.

In the second attempt Jarasandha, took the help of Kalayavana ( from North west of India) and Rukmi. This time krishna again fled but with the whole Yadava group and Dwaraka was constructed. KalaYavana was killed in the course of the flight by some Sage.

So flight is necessary not cowardice. Krishna split these powerful kings from their army and individually overpowered them. The way jarasandha killed itself tells it.

I think Iam dragging this a bit too much. But your mail just made me think of Krishna. Some time back I was reading a book by Munshi. But I also agree that these instances are not scientific and includes author's guesses.

  • Dear Priya
    Just a clarification
Rajathitha was killed in Thakkolam not Thalaikottai and the chola
army did retreat but held them at a lower level the pazhuvettarayars
were part of the cheiftains who helped Arinjaya hold them Back
    Atleast that is Kalkis version
