Anyone reading ponniyin selvan would have wondered about the future of the chola dynasty.It seems impossible that the cholas lost out to pandya's in the end.It is indeed ironical that the last chola king was named as rajarajan.
But close scrutiny of history reveals a fact.Kings who built great temples share a boon.Their dynasties never lose.Till the last heir their dynasties retain glory and valor.Rajaraja built the largest known temple to shiva.His dynasty never last a war again.
Rajaraja cholans dynasty had glorious heirs like Rajendra,rajathiraja,veera rajendra and athi rajendra.In Fact Rajathi raja cholan,son of rajendra cholan was very valiant.His problem was that his father did not leave him any place to to kanyakumari,from indianesia to kambodia his father conquered.So there wasnt anyplace for rajathiraja to win.But he defeated chalukya king parameshwara in a massive way.Parameshwara ran away from the battlefield.
The last heir of that dynasty was athirajendra.After it the famous vijayalaya chola's dynasty ended.Even Kulothunga who was not a direct descendent was valiant since he had the blood of rajaraja in him.But after his death again the dynasty changed.History would have been different had the dynasty of vijayalaya not ended.But till the last king,the dyansty was full of warriors and brave kings.
It is the same with Narashimavarma's dyansty.He built huge temples in mahabalipura.His grandson rajashima pallava built huge temple for vishnu.Their dyansty never losta war then.The dyansty changed with abarajitha pallava.Then he lost out to adhitha cholan.
Good and interesting, ofcourse we all know that fact that Kulothunga is not from the real chola , its a good and intersting view,and the comparission is also good.
