No. 188.— ON A SLAB SET UP IN THE TIRUVALISVARA TEMPLE AT KATTUR[7]
This inscription is dated in the 9th year of Parthivendradhipativarman andrecords a gift of land as tannippatti[8] by the residents of Kattur to the ambalam constructed by Pattaiyanar, the chief superintendent of the order of perundaram.[9]
Hail ! Prosperity ! In the 9th year of (the reign of) king Parthivendradhipativarman, Pattaiyanar, the chief superintendent of perundaram, having constructed the temple (ambalam) of this village, we the residents of the village (urom) of Kattur in Paiyur-kottam sold and gave as tannippatti seven ma of land comprised of two tadi[10] in the western (portion) of (the field called) Amanambogam alias Palerikkaluval, which with four ma and five hundred and fifty of kaluval (land situated) to the north of the erippatti of (the tank called) Kilai-eri, (forms) one half and one ma of land.[11] He who destroys this (charity) shall incur the sins committed in the seven hundred kadam (of land lying) between Ganga (the Ganges) and Kumari (Cape Comorin.) The sacred feet of him who protects this charity shall be on (my) head.

This valisvaram is a gajabrashta type temple. All inscriptions are tiled now. When enquired - pat came the reply - haan, enna kalvettu, adu koduthan, maadu koduthannu -
Fortunately, these inscriptions were recorded.
There is a Kattur is mentioned as Vaippu thalam by both sambandar and Appar. There are many speculations on which kattur is referred but no one have mentioned this kattur. There is a good possibility of this Kattur because
a. Sundarar stayed long at Thiruvotriyur which is close by b. The name Kattur was existent in Parthivendran time itself.
Dear There is a big river called periyar in Kerala. Can any body tell why it is called periyar? any thing relevent to EVR? The river in the olden period called chuliyum and this river periyar is one and the same? I request your estemed help in this regard
This is not related to anything with EVR. This river is originally called as "Purana Nadhi", and later as the river is a wide one and this has been started calling as "Periyaru Nadhi" and now they are calling this as Periyar River."Kalady" one of the famous pilgrim place and the Birth Place of Sri Sri Adhi Sankara is on the banks of this great river. It is one of the very nice place to visit.
