Rajaraja & Rajendra
  • Dear Friends,

What wonderful pieces of authentic informations flow from Mr. Rathana
Sabapathi! Each mail is a rathnam by itself - like another Rathanam
    in our Group!

Re Rajaraja Pallippadai : PAALKULATHAMMAN koil is near Ammankudi
(Krishnan Raman's place) - Udaylur - about 3 Kms South East of
Pazhayarai. Two stone pillars contain inscriptions: A commander of
Kulothunga, VIRADHAMIRUNDHU rebuilding a place - which was built by a
Commander of Rajendra and dilapated (Sidhalmadaindhu). These were
seen by Dr.Kudavoil - Dr. Kkvn - Dr. Nagasamy - Dr. Rajavelu & by
similar scholars! They do not accredit this place as Pallippadai of
Rajraja! As per Sundarapandian meykeerthi, he has destroyed every
single pillar of Chozha Kingdom after 400 yrs of vengence - except
the Mandabam from where Karikalan gave away the gifts to the author
of Pattinappalai! Still some scholars are working on finding this
unique place - RR's Pallippadai! The place is getting zeroed to
about 3 Kms radius of Pazhayarai - near Panchavanmadevi's
    Pallippadai - Thiruvalanchuzhi belt!

Maldieves island details are very informative .. Similarly
    Brahmadesam inscriptions..!

Rajendra born in 971 & was about 40 yr old when became King .. This
may be the reason for Kalki to write that Vanathi descided not to sit
in the throne! She married Arumozhi - gave birth to Rajendra and
they were out of power till 985. Olagamadevi marriage would have
been a political marriage. A Deal (arrangement) might have been
made. Rajendra to succeed Rajaraja - but Olagamadevi would have been
Pattamahishi! Dr. Sethuraman's theory - Gangai kondan etc., - not
well supported. Including Dr. Nagaswamy, eveybody confirms that
there was ONLY ONE SON to Rajaraja. Dr.Kudavoil says three
daughters. Dr. Kalakkovan says two daughters.

It is Vanathi @ Vanamadevi - Rajendra's mother
    and Danthisakthividangi @ Olgamadevi @ Thirubuvanamadevi - RR's
    Pattamahishi.

Request Srihari to post more such informative mails...
That reminds me : Yesterday I visited Satthan Pazhiyili's temple in
Narthamalai ... near Pudukkottai.. It was excellent .. rare piece
    constructed on the rocks...

  • Dear,

No proof. I have reproduced from the mails flown & the reference provided
from the Ponniyinselvan Novel. There is reasonto believe that Arumozhi was
born in early 950s since Aditha Karikalan died as Crown prince in 969.
There are supportings that Uthama was married and visited Kudanthai
Nageswaran temple before he ascended to throne. (Ref. Dr.Sethuraman) There
is place called Rajendra Chozhanagam near Kadambur - Udayarkudi belt.

Kalki leaves the story at : Uthama ascending to throne.. 969 AD

What happened to Sundara Chozha ? He shared power with Uthama till 971 and
became "Pon Maligai thunjiya devar". Vanavanmadevi committed "Sati". The
Pon maligai was not in Kanchi - but near Thirukkandiyur - says Kudavoil
Dr.Balu - and affirms that this was indeed "Nandhipuram" and identifies
    Erattaikkoil as their Pallipadais.

Kundavai & Vandiyathevan got settled in Thiruvallam (Near Ranipet / BHEL) -
    closer to Melpadi (Western-Command).

What Arumozhi was doing till he became Rajaraja in 985 - shared power with
Uthama - and became Chakravarthy in 987 ? Where was he :: In Tanjore,
Kudanthai - Pazhayarai - Udayarkudi? Was he looking after the royal affairs
along with Uthama or has he stayed out? Like this there are several
queries. Vanathi - Olagamadevi was one such.

    Fondly, SB
  • Dear SB
Just out of professional curiosity is there any mention in these kalvettukkal and meikeerthikal about the general health and wellbeing...disease patterns of those times?

i know there were athurasaalaisa and they liberally donated to those

  • Dear SB Sir,

If a Pandya king has destroyed all. Does they destroyed the Temples?

To my knowledge, Pallippadi means, A Temple built on a particular place in remembrance /
tribute of a king or queen. They place may be where they buried /died (may be a War
place). In the same temple, they wrote about the concern person and what is the donation
    given to the temple.

Can you give more details on pallipadai.

In such a case why our Tamil kings are going to destroy a temple. May be he would have
removed those pillars where some info written abt the kings. No idea.
