copper platesfound in Kailasanathar Temple -
  • Dear Dr. Kailasam,

dear member Vijay has furnished the details. Thanks Vijay.

    Re manickavasagar ::

When spoke to couple of Scholars they felt it is early to make such announcement. In news item, even VALLI figured - denoting a bronze.

the iconographical details need to be gone into.

On view was that if Sundara was found, the female Bronze might have been PARAVAI.

Likewise I recall Kottayur Sivakkozhundu desigar in his Peruvudayar Ula re Thanjai Big Temple - published during Sarfoji - prior to formation of ASI by the British and Prof Heultz - mentioned that

    (i) the temple was constructed by Karikalan
(ii) identified one of the bronzes as that of Amarapujangan !

Thus identifying Bronzes - unless clear parameters are defined - is difficult and more of speculative.

But undoubtedly these finds are going to throw more interesting informations of Chola History.

Offhandedly - these CPs are presumed to be of Rajaraja II or after.

  • These copper plates are cast - not inscribed.

My friend Mr Bala Padhmanaban - who was fortunate enough to touch these plates - told me that it was difficult to lift and turn one plate ! It was pretty heavy!

The ring that links the plates is around 2 ft long !
  • Any Photos of these plates?
  • Thats a good info Gokul.

Inscribe - i can understand how it can be done.
But casting - how can words be casted? Can you throw more light as how is
    was done?
