THIRUVALANGADU
  • Dear Sri, G, Krupa & others, At last the long silence is broken.. As
rightly Sri pointed good to see activities.

Re woman committing suicide in Thiruvalangadu : It was PAZHAYANOOR
NEELI kathai - reproduced in KARAIYELLAM SENBAGAPPOO by Writer
Sujatha (Rangarajan) more than two decades ago. Kadellam Pichippoo -
Karaiyella Senbagappoo... naattuppadal is reproduced in several
movies afterwards.. He got a recognition for Nattuppadal those days -
when Pudhukkavidhai (Mu Metha - Abdul Rahman & co were budding)- mid
70s. Father is Bharathi - of course.
In Pazhayanoor even today a red soil is avl where it is believed that
for giving a wrong verdict 70 villages - including headmen -
    committed suicide !

Thiruvalangau is a place where Siva & Kali danced for the exclusive
benefit of Karaikkalammayar .. There is rahasyam in this temple also.
Karaikkalammayar tried to reach Kailasam walking head-downwards..

SO, WHEN APPAR, SUNDARAR & SAMBANDAR came to worship this place, they
stood at Pazhayanoor (one mile away) and sang their hymns - not to
keep their feet on the soil on which Karaikkalammayar ket her head-
downards! Thiruvalangadu is still a vaippusthalam!

Our famous Thiruvalangadu cheepedugal were found here only -
    describing the heirachy of Chozhas!.

    Fondly, SB

    Dear SB
This novel you are talking about is a thriller and has nothing to do
with Pazhiyanoor neeli. I read it quite recently. To my knowledge
Balakumaran's novel is the only story available. (Purusha vadham)
Not a great story though - not to bala's standards.
  • --Dear Gokul, I read Sujatha's Karaiyellam Senbagappoo atleast
twenty years back. I remeber to have read a murder scenorio - in the
back drop of which - Pazhayanoor Neeli Villuppattu text was
given/played. In Anandavikadan when it was published, this was
composed by different fonts - if I remember correct. Please go
through the book if you and confirm if I am wrong.

Incidentally, 'Kaadellam pichippoo' is sung in Thevar Magan - when
Kamal & Gowthami enter the village ....

  • Dear SB and Gokul
    I agree with SB

Sujatha did use the Pazhaiyanoor Neeli legend in the novel. On one hand Vasanth tries to proove that the female figure is Neeli Ganesh prooves that it actually is holography induced image....
  • Dear Dr.Sridhar,

Thank you. But no one has put Pazhayanoor Neeli story in our group
for the benefit of others who do not know. It is a pathetic &
    painful story:

A youth (vanigan) going to Kasi with his beloved wife - killing her
on the way. While returning a ghost resembling wife joins him. They
come to Thiruvalangadu together. The youth avoids going with her.
She insists she is his wife. He tells the village headman that she
is a ghost. He does not take it serious. He stands guarantee for
their wel-being and purshes him inside the room to be with his wife.
Next morning the head man finds the youth dead. She has crushed him
with such a vengence. The headman and the panchayat people commit
    suicide enmass.

Even today (in the year 2004) one can feel the place haunted..!

No evidence for occurances.. but hear say for generations..

    Fondly, SB

Sri, I think you got your novels mixed up:-). SB's talking
about 'Karaiyellaam Shenbagappoo' - in which the Pazhaiyanoor Neeli
    story forms a beautiful backdrop.

Your novel - involving Ganesh and Vasanth- is 'Kolaiyuthir Kaalam'.
    Another great novel.
