freinds, few months ago i also raised this issue. there is mystery shrouded in secret and wrapped in an enigma called manikavasakar (at least in our chidambaram circles).
he is not only excluded from the 63 list he is excluded from thevaram also. thus loosing the prestigious first list of murais. he was systematically sidelined by then chola country.
even to day he is not as reverred as the thevera moovar in chidambaram. his samadhi lies neglected in a corner of the town with encroachments by public. if anyone see his samadhi(athmanadha avudyar-thillai thiruperunthurai -as he named it)would bleed through your eyes.
why manikavasakar was and is neglected in chidambaram is a question i have asked many dheekshidhars too. some said it was a political issue-as he was from madurai. some said he could not be taken as such as he has claimed to have been baptised by god himself. his songs had a an element of "samathuvam" which was against vedic practices!
if you read thiruvilayadal puranam(17th century edition) one can see lot of anti-cholan views and chracterisations. thiruvilayadalpuranam had an 12th century edition which was written by a cholan poet(i dont remember his name but the book is in annamalai university library, it was discovered by u.v.saminath iyer-he was the second pricipal of the then university college)and it differs from the chronological aspects of the stories and depiction of cholas too.
while on the topic - i read Nandhivaraman III by Sri Mylai Seeni Venkatswamy, he identifies Kazhsinga nayanaar to Nandhivaram III and also on same king that Nandhi Kalambagam was sung - Ad 825 - 836. Is this right
1. Even thevaram lay neglected ( 2 of the 3 are Brahmins, so na caste issues and there is no pathigam which dosenot mention on the glory of vedam and vediyar and hence noequality issue)
2. What Nambiyandar Nambi and Rajaraja chola retrived from Chidambaram was just 20%
3. Even the compositions of Thyagaraja ( 18th century) is not fully available and only 20% is available.
4. If not for Thamilthatha, the sangam litreature and silapathigaram would have been lost. ( of the 5 , kundalakesi and valayabathi are lost)
5.A small part of adrva veda, 4 out of 1000 parts of samaveda survive because of Kanchi Paramacharya.
Irrespective of language,most of indian litreature are lost. Dont attribute anytning to this.
We Indians are Like that. A Country which dosenot believe in itself.
