Cholas affliction with Vishnu
  • hi

I was reading Kamil Zvebils' Tamil traditions of subramanya-murugan. An
interesting account of marriage of Tadathgai with Somasundarar - birth of
Ugrapandya ( Muruga incarnate) - but what interested me was the marriage of
Ugrpandya with a chola Princes. - Kantimati ( an incarnation of Valli). Her
parents quote " North of Madurai, in Manavur Vishnu and Lakshmi rule as
King comacekara colan and his queen."

So if by this legend Pandya's claim descent from Shiva, Cholas should be
claiming from Vishnu !!. Is it why RRC is said to be born with the
    attributes of Vishnu etc etc?

  • Dear VJ
Was it Manavur or MANALUR? Manalur is mentioned in Tiruvilayadal Puranam and Mahabharatham. The King's name was Somasekara Pandian, not Cholan. Manalur alias Manalurpuram was the ancient city as Madurai which comes in the Papruvahan-Arjunan story in Mahabharatham. It was the city in which the Indra's crown and sword given to Pandiyas were kept and has historical references. Kindly clarify. I have not read Kabil Zvebils book.
    2. The Pandiyas' lineage starts from Indran and Cholas starts from Vishnu (Abhithana Sinthamani) and Sankara Cholan Ula. As in Kalingathu Parani, Kulothungan I was born with 'Mahavishnu's Amsam'.
Please correct me, if Iam wrong.
