rajendrachola :: queens & offspring
  • DEAR VENKAT,

    QUEENS OF RjC ::

    MUKKIZHANADIGAL
    ARINJAVAN MAADEVI
    THRIBUVANA MADEVI @ VANAVAN MADEVI
    VEERAMADEVI
    PANCHAVAN MADEVI

    VEERAVAN MADEVI COMMITTED SATI WHEN RAJENDRA I PASSED AWAY.

    Sons ::

    Rahadhirajan I (1018 - 1056 ) co ruled with RjC
    Rajendra II - 1051 - 1063
    Veera Rajendra - 1063 - 1070.

    Another view point is that :: Sundara Chola Pandian @ Mummudi chola pandian also supposedly son of Rajendra I. He controlled that part of province from Madurai.

    KARANDAI TAMIL SANGAM Souvenir mentioned following sons also totalling to six ::

    Vikrama Chola pandian

    Parakrma chola pandian

    The view point is from Meykeerthi of Rajendra II - "Thirumaadhu puviyenum .. " -

    some detailed study leads to a speculation that Sundara Chola Pandian @ Mummudi chola Pandian @ RAJA MAHENDRAN was son of RjC I !!

    Daughters :

    ARUMOZHI NANGAI gave grants to THIRUMZAHAPADI !!

    AMMANGA DEVI married RRC's daughter Kundavi's son Rajaraja Narendran - who later became to be known as Kulothunga I ! She out lived Kulothunga I .. and inscription of Kulothunga III also mentions of her !!

    regards/ sps
  • HI Sps
    overlapping names between wives of different kings may mean the same families gave daughters to the kings.
    i think both rrc and rjc took wives from pazhuvur and kodumbalur.

  • Dear Venkat,

    As I have been looking at, most of them are marriages towards political balancing.

    Thirubuvanamadevi @ Bhuvanamadevi @ Olagamadevi names mostly related to Crown Queen and the immediate next one.

    Panchavanmadevi appears to be very CHOSEN name - more likely a Queen Scholar in Classical Arts and Dance - as atleast RRC's Panchavanmadevi also was known as Nakkan Thillai azhagiyar !

    Villavan madevi - Meenavanmadevi & others respectively from Chera / Pandya provinces..

    Thus we have similar names - mostly ASSUMED / ADOPTED.

    Nakkan Pattaragi - Ammangadevi likewise names are TRUE NAMES ..!!

    Pazhuvur Kodumbalur Velirs assumed prominence in Militia and likewise their Women assumed prominence in the Order of Queendom.

    regards/ sps
  • Thanks dear Thiru.

    Actually there was a Panchavanmadevi Queen
    to Uthama chola
    Rajaraja chola and
    Rajendra I !!

    Re Thiruvaiyaru - the Vadakailasam is supposedly done by danthisakthividangi w/o RRC.

    Thenkailasam by RjC' wife... more likely Panchavanmadevi.

    ( I also remember to have read somewhere that it was built by Sembianmadevi... the author might have erred ).

    Put "Thiruvaiyaru " in search - you will find very very interesting informations.. even recently (during Mrs. Shoba's visit and her husband "Gentleman" Mr. Ramakrishnan's blog immediately come to my mind..

    There are atleast a member from Thiruvaiyaru (Narendran ?) .. and Satheesh - from Thanjavur has discussed vividly in his blog too.

    thanks and regards /

    sps
