my suggestion is there is a mandatory meet once in two months. say second sunday of even months. the next one would be propably 11th october if it is not too close to diwali. lets plan a trip, a speech or a meeting. keep it small and sweet. not get troubled with month long works.
Dear Sir, Am planning to come to Chennai by 16th of October for Diwali and will stay upto Nov 12th i.e for nearly a month... I would be very happy to attend such a meet if it is scheduled sometime during that period.
Dear members I request you to consider our beloved vairamuthu's suggestion -After meet- regarding working in an organised manner with the support from government
What are the objectives of this group. I think we should not go over board with everything under the sun.
1. PS movie, animation etc are very specific projects which we have talked off much and industry greats have / are attempting. If such an effort materialises, we can offer support on content.
Apart from that I can think of a few more as below:
2.Encourage and be a platform to support new talent in writing - maybe restrict to historical fiction. For that we maybe need to have a portal - to showcase a few sample chapters - for discussions. ebooks, be a liason with publishers etc.
3. Popularise cholas and seek more coverage of south indian history in text books. maybe include a chapter on tamil script an inscriptions in schools
4. Organise a library of old and rare works - on history and sculpture as reference material for our group. We can later extend and integrate with groups like mintamil / project madurai basing on copyright issues.
5. Conduct awareness programs - heritage tours targetted at school and college students, make use of the talent we have with experts in our group and through our contacts.
6. Build capability to come out with short booklets on atleast major temples / clans / kings and place on publicdomain as ebooks.
7. My personal goal - if anyone interested to support feel free to write to me - a heritage art competition among school and a heritage photo competition among college students.
8. Be a repository for heritage information. For this we need to help thiru to better archive our exchanges, need volunteers to assist in bringing a monthly summary - edited.
> 3. Popularise cholas and seek more coverage of south indian history in text > books. maybe include a chapter on tamil script an inscriptions in schools > 5. Hi VJ,
For long time I have one opinion that we dont take much effort to induce interest among school students about Tamil History and literature. 1.Surely History books at least in our state boards need more coverage on Tamil kingdoms. 2.PVSP as a group should encourage school/college students to take interest in our own History. PVSP can conduct at least one annual major quiz event on Tamil History and literature. There are many takers for quiz events (people who go to landmark quiz must know) esp school and collage students in Chennai have great interest for quiz. Organizing such events would evoke interest among students. When PVSP could organise such a big event like Peruvizha an Annual quiz contest wouldn't be much of issue considering we have so many people who can contribute with questions and answers. All we need is bit of publicity and an auditorium(or we can conduct the event in some school). 3. Or probably target one event every year for students which include art/photo competitions along with presentations/projects by students with quiz.
PVSP should consider evoking interest among students as one of it major objectives. In the age of internet and free online resources- its very easy for people to do useful stuff , only they lack direction. There are so many students killing time in Facebook and Orkut. Creating some interest in them on Tamil culture, history and literature would surely turn out to be a fruitful effort!

WELL SAID VJ
the organising comitee this time underwent a great strain because of too many objectives
the only objective should be to provide our group members a nice time. lots of information in the subject they love

> > any takers? NO TAKERS RIGHT NOW. I MAY BE DAMPENING THE SPIRIT BUT WE THE ORGANISERS JUST REALISED WE DONT HAVE THE MAN POWER FOR ANY OF THE ABOVE
future should be limited to trips and small meets.
> > We need a Bank Account ... first ... > > How to handle this ? > > We have to define our outfit : Under Societies act.. > registration etc.
cant we stay away from all this small is indeed beautiful tell me honestly SPS could you enjoy the 2 day programme just like us. you were even too tired to join us for the trip which you would have enjoyed.
we shall for a trial have a trip on 11th ocober. melpadi side.
Vikraman spoke .. nice to hear first time... (for some of us 2nd time).. Kumaravel was marvellous...
As rightly projected, this has motivated interested persons to get more into writing... The Souvenir articles are also excellent..
as History Forum ... YES again.
I am not too sure how many Souvenirs may contain - works of Dr. Nagaswamy, Dr. Kalaikkovan, Dr. Nalini, Dr. K Balu, Dr. Rajavelu, Sriraman and Dr. Sathyamurthy under single banner... the Cream of the Scholars today.. Dr. Subbarayalu - Airavatham & a very few apart..
And the most impressive part was each slide show or explanation was done by the PERSONS WHO DIRECTLY INVOLVED THEMSELVES with such find / original versions.
As we are all aware, this was on Cards more than 3 - 4 years now.
We have done it in one go and cleared all the accumulated ambitions.. So there was some extra energy needed ..
Now we can channelise ...in both these area..
And the greatest reward WE got for putting in that extra energy was your SON ... today's youth - in jeans and studying architecture and in the launching pad - composing a song for Poonguzhali - understanding the scenerio so well ... and making it so memorable !! Not a Bakthi Song !!
You - as a literary person accomplished what has been in your mind.. cherishing and enjoying every ounce of that literature.. with like minded ones..
ME - too enjoyed the same... and is getting groomed as a History person also and continuing the pathe joyfully..
WE - together - have accomplished what we wanted to... carried forward our PASSION to the next generation..
My full family attended the meet.. Believe it I have not even invited them...
Your wife (who have been always been supportive) and SON made a great impact...
AND the Great Success lies in the attendance of Mrs. Shoba's Husband .. Mr. Ramakrishnan.. how happy he was ..
We definitely created the feel of the family we have been talking of all along... (The MEET was like a Kalyanam - rather !!)
I am also cautious :: Bank accounts and elected body will not make us feel free.
Let us go along the stream for some more time.... time will guide us...
As desired by our dear Viswaksenan, handed over some photographs of morning Session with Ms. Sita Ravi and the evening session with Mrs. Gowri narayanan to kalki magazine today.
Also sent a compact album to Kavipperarasu Vairamuthu.
Will coordinate with Thiru re editing the Vedio / photos etc.
I agree. We should be focused on what we want to achieve. We shud not get too carried away by the success of this function. Those who attended pl don't get me wrong - Had we kept 200Rs entry charge we would not have attracted this crowd. I have a request to those who suggest new future plans - pl submit the plan with clear revenue / funding plans, execution plan with named ownership etc to the group. Aspiration is good - execution is better.
Few suggestions : if it is a one day trip pl organise it on Saturdays to that sunday we can return to our homes. This will help people who have to join u from outside chennai
