Just imagine the 11th and 12th Century - just prior to Mohammeden Rule in India.

    Thanjavur - Big temple
    Belur - Halabedu - Hoysalas
    Bhuvaneswar - Lingaraja
    Ellora

    and Ankurwatt in Cambodia !!

Golden Era of Temple Architecture !!

  • Dear SPS & Kannan,
Please, don't forget Khajuraho in list of great temples
    of that era.

I'm puzzled tho re Puri: how could Lord Krishna have
left his body at Puri, when he was hit by an arrow at
    Bhalka Tirth outside Dwarka, GUJ?
    Just curious. . .
    Kathie
ps I have photos from Konark also, if anyone wants them.
  • Yes Kathie is correct, the Bhagavatham/Mahabharat say Sri Krishna left his body just outside Dwaraka following which Dwaraka was submerged in the sea. This is a 'borrowed' myth :))
  • You both are right.

Let me also check PURI Puranam.

But the local temple person told us this..

    regards/ sps
  • Myths do surround such events

if rama had visited all the places in ramnad district that he is reported to have , he would have had no time to invade lanka....

" It also houses the relics of many Hindu saints as traditionally it is seen as a holy place to die in or to be cremated. "

May be our Local guide added more spice by including Lord Krishna also in the list !

    thanks for setting right.

    regards / sps
