About Meikeerthi's ref in Nataraja in Art, Thought And Literature, by C.Sivaramamurti
  • hi friends,

Please see this interesting ref to King's meikeerthi's

The composer of an inscription has said, and probably, in a normal sense,
rightly, that dance in the darkness is an impossibility. Let kings compose
hundreds of mellifluous poems, or chum up hosts of foes on the battlefield,
or scatter their wealth on deserving donees, but with the passage of time
all these their exploits would be like dancing in utter darkness if these
were not recorded by poets in *prasastis:

kurvantu kirtanasatani rananganeshu mathnantu vairinikaram dhanam
utsrijantu kalanatare tad akhilam prabalandhakaranrityopamam kavijanair
    anibaddhyamanam (Epigraph. Ind. 27,* p. 281).

  • Dear Vijay,

    - Precisely mentioned.
    Thanks for sharing.

That is why I have always been maintaining that Tamil Kings - atleast from Paranataka onwards - were maintaining records.

Most of them either dilapidated or mutilated (during invasions - of Other Tamils / or other Creeds ) ...

and the ones we have handy also not fully diciphered...

and the ones deciphered also are not fully publicised...

and we have not fully accessed those which are publicised too..

    regards/ sps
