OTHER THAN HISTORY :: MERCURY
  • Mercury is VERY poisonous if consumed. Ancient ayurveda texts have used mercury in careful, VERY small quantities for 'rasa' and  that is what this article is talking about. There have been metal poisoning including mercury poisoning even in immature ayurvedic preparations. It should NOT be mixed with camphor and krambu etc and consumed by general public and please do not circulate this just in case anyone tries anything like this.
  • Remember the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland?
It was Mercury used to treat the beaver Victorian top hats
that made him mad. Nothing to mess around with!

    hi mad as a hatter
ad as a roman emperor would fit in too.
lots of roman nobility were suffering from brain degeneration as they
    drank wine from lead cups

  • My brother lives in UK; he suffered a stroke about 15 years ago. He got
the best treatment available at that time under NHS, and did a partial
recovery with limited mobility. Under the advice of his friends, well
wishers and similar 'stroke affected' persons, he took ayurvedic
treatment - massage, medicines etc. in India for about six months,
spread over two or three stretches. He made a significant recovery, a
marked improvement in all areas - mobility, speech etc. But UK doctors
advised him not to continue with the treatment as the medicines
contained, according to them, dangerous levels of mercury. I am not sure
whether they came to this conclusion by analysing the medicines or by a
proper medical check up. (about 12 to 13 years ago). But he has retained
the health gains till date, drives a car, makes frequent trips to India,
and is leading a normal life. I can only say that he gained by the
ayurvedic/hot medicinal oil massage/medicines treatment he received.
Many of the scheduled allopathic drugs are also dangerous and lethal. It
    is a different story altogether.

  • Told by chemistry lecturer in college. Even household water was supplied
by lead pipes in UK. Dissolved lead simply accumulated in the body
without causing any damage. When stored lead exceeded a critical level,
it affected digestion, blood and nervous system.
Lead was extensively used in UK - roof cladding, and in the stained
glass windows of the churches ( well, in all glass windows)

The proverb, 'alavukku meerina, amrhumum visham, cannot be faulted.

  • The making of Cinnabar is not a simple process. It is hugely complex involving controlled conditions of climate, poojas/rituals and literally years inely difficult in today's world.

I will post the name of the book tomorrow, on ayurvedic medicine and its study. It is very balanced study. Metal poisoning is often possible with modern ayurvedic preparations as they are not made according to vedic specifications which are not possible.

  • another use of mercury in ancient times - for alchemy
making of gold from base metal
  • This book - Search for the Medicine Buddha - has a great history and analysis of Rasa Shastra or use of Mercury and other metals in ancient ayurvedic medicine.

A brief description of this ancient science is given below. It is very deep and very complex, which makes it intriguing and dangerous to experiment with as well. Modern science DOES NOT accept or condone use of heavy metals (mercury, lead and arsenic) to treat health conditions. They are not prepared according to ancient texts most of which are corrupted and lost over time and conditions changed radically. But it is still useful to know what a deep science it was. Please anyone if you know of people in your own family or anyone using ayurvedic medication with heavy metals (there is lots of herbal ayurvedic medicines that are harmless and very effective) - please dissuade to the extent possible.
  • And mercury has retained its use in one application for a long time and
till today - the thermometer. Eventhough use of mercury is banned in
several countries, I think thermometers are still manufactured in
    Kodaikanal.
I forgot, mercury vapour lamps will not vanish for a long time.

  • Sir,

You forgot our Pazhani murugan? That Idol was also made from "Nava pAsAnam"
(9 poisons) but unfortunately they scooped out the god's body for money. I
suspect whether that statue is still there! Already they made a new idol and
kept it infront of the original one. Today what we see is the new one.

Here the quote - alavirku minjinAl amirthamum nanjAkum - aLavOdu kalanthAl
    nanjum amirthamAkum :-)
  • Dear Mr.Srinivasa Ragavan,

What you said is 100% no no 1000% correct.

My thesis on Alchemi and ayur vedas is proving the same.

If you could send me the Medical report and details I will add that as appendix for my thesis.

We can recover Coma patients and Cancer Patients too.
  • Please everyone be  CAREFUL that is all. Allopathic drugs are lethal also if taken in improper ways, there is no allopathic drug that is prescribed and is outright poison if it is you can sue the manufacturer (atleast in UK or US). I posted a detailed mail on alchemy/rasa shasta looks like it got lost somewhere. It is an ancient and great science but lot of the detail is loset over time and the greatly intricate methods of prepartion are extremely difficult in modern times. Using mercury, lead and arsenic in medication is VERY injurious to health, please be careful that is all. Purely herbal ayurvedic medication is fine but tainted with hard metals is risky and dangerous to health.
