THANJAVUR: A rare statue of Ayyanar, belonging to the eighth or ninth century A.D. was found buried in a plantain groove at Kattuputhur in Tiruchi district by a group of experts.
The team comprised Kudavayil Balasubramanian, B.M. Sundaram, musicologist, and Swarnamalya, a researcher in dance drama.
Mr. Balasubramaniyan said the beautiful sculpture featured `Jadabaram,' `Badrakundalam' in one ear and the sacred thread and ornaments in the chest. The team also found a `linga' of the Pallava era and icons of Rishaba and Vishnu in broken condition in the area.
This sculpture is identified as 11th century "Rishabavagana murthy", I feel both the sculptures (in my blog and in the news) have many similarities but why the names are different? Can you please enlighten me?

Dear Satheesh,
Nice work - yes both are very similar. I am not an expert at this, maybe sps sir can check why. But naming a statue that is available only till the bust as rishabavahanar - am not sure.
