The survey conducted by Census of India reveals the following...Some of these facts will surpirse u...depress u... but they will also present a profile of india and the indians u had never known...
There are 179 million residential houses in India...about six people to each house...
40% of Indian families live in one-room houses..
39% of all married couples [abt 86 mn] do not have an independent room to them...
There are more place of worship in the country [2.4 mn] than schools, colleges and hospitals combined...[2.1 mn]
.....weird...isnt it?
53% of families use firewood to cook...almost 50% of rural houses still lit with kerosene....
In most states, more families have TVs than toilets...
only 52% people in the country live in houses with permanent walls and roof..
only 21% houses have concrete roof...
Only 56% have electricity at home
just 38% have water... 62 million families draw water from communits taps or handpumps...over 5 million
families still depend on rivers and ponds for drinking water...32 million houeholds [17%] dont have
a source of water near home...
44% of indian houses dont have electricity....
only 6% urban families have a car and yet most city roads are clogged with traffic...

I just thought of sharing this with u....
So many questions arise in my mind......may be for u too!
If I have to indicate the choice among Social - Regional and Religious activities, I may indicate them in the same order. Probably Water & food to everyone; Pride of Tamil Culture; and then the Faith in worship.
I may like Cauvery - running in Chola heartland closer to Siva and Perumal temples. Probably we can organise - reorganise our houses first... We may need another platform - a larger one to spell out more things. Probably you have named it already : Hamara Hindusthan or The Indus.
