Dear Thiru, I am not able to upload the photos to our group website, it displayed a message to reduce the pixel size and max. capcity 256kb..so I need some time to resize and upload it...will do by monday...
I have the photoshop and other photo editing softwares, so i can resize it without disturbing quality. Anyway thanks for this idea, I can do this in the absence of any softwares.
Dear Satheesh, your pictures are remarkable, thank you. The 'yuddham' appears to be Thriupureswara, or Siva fighting to burn demon lords of three cities (thiru puram). This is stated in Drona Parvam of Mahabharat. (There are other versions of this also).
beautiful work. brought me back wonderful memories when i made a flying visit to this town everymonth. under the rajagopuram the words sembiyan madevi can be deciphered by even a lay man amidst the mass of entangled edicts. train to ariyalur- taxi to malapaadi and then to tanjore to catch the rock fort.'
heard the roads are excellent now.
if somebody needs to visit pazhuvur, malapaadi, lalkudi, anbil are all close by.
satheesh 2 things i needed to point out.
1 malapaadi rajagopuram on the road is known for some of its atrociously erotic statues. 2. there is a small beautiful natraja on the mathil suvar near amman temple. somebody posted a pic of it sometime back. also the second dakshinamurthy on a bull.
Perhaps because it is the only true 'warrior' form of Siva, and being siva bhakthas they adored it. There are many warrior forms of Sri Vishnu, Rama with bow and arrow, Krishna with sudarshana etc but Siva wields a bow and arrow, sword and shield only as Tripurantaka.
The war like sculptures are in two places please check the 6th and 7th photos, in the sixth photo there is a gajamugam statue infront of the warrior in the car. Who is that? if this is related to thiripuram then that gajamugan is the achu muritha pillaiyaar or in thiripuram is there any mention about gajamugaasuran? can anyone throw some light on this pls...
Hi malapaadi is 6 km only from thirumaanur. on both sides of the road you can see the biggest frying pans in the world on this route!!! huge ones used to make vellam from cane juice. thirumaanur is the native place of our group member muruganandam author of the biography on 'Feroze gandhi' have you noticed all places on the road with royal sounding names.
I was told the road from trichy via pullambadi is better now.
> > Thank you sir, I will checkout the dhakshina murthy and nataraja when i > visit next time.
actually the dakshina murthy is where you have a photo of the " rear of the temple" if you go around 10 am you can see the maragatha lingam.
malavarayars perhaps named a town after their maapillai.
> yes sir I had seen, FYI I had been living in thirumaanur for about 3 > years when i was studying my college! > > I can mention few names enroute mazhapaadi from thirumaanur; > manjamedu, kaaraipakkam, aranmanai kurichi... > > Some village names around thirumaanur are vetriyur, viragaalur, > elaakurichi....some names I am struggling to recall. > > rgds/satheesh >
Yes Ganesha's wives were daughters of the divine architect Vishwakarma, Riddhi (knowledge) and Siddhi (attainment). There are also two children, I forget the names. Ganesha is called Siddhi Vinayaka for this reason too that Siddhi was his 'wife'. Not sure about Riddhi in this regard :))
Hi As someone posted yesterday that the woman sitting on the lap is vallabhai! now i started searching in that line of thinking..in a description about besant nagar vinayagar temple it read as"Vallabha Ganapathy has on his lap Vallabhai , the daughter of Marreecha Munivar, whom Vinayaka is said to have married. In this form, he is known as Lakshmi Ganapathy in Northern India and is said to be representing Vishnu and Vallabha Lakshmi." in another page it read as"Vallabhai &Sithi, Buthi [wives] Vallabhai sitting on his lap Sithi, Buthi standing on his sides" still i have not come across about the sons/daughters of pillayar...will check and post.. tks&rgds Satheesh kumar R
