Where can I buy in Chennai?
  • Hi Friends,
When in Chennai can I buy a set of the 5 volumes of the Kalki version
of Ponniyin Selvan with all drawings etc..? The ones that is
available in the market are without the drawings.
  • Hi,

My recommendation would be Varthamanan Pathipagam, at T.Nagar.

  • He wants the old bounded version of Ponniyin Selvan which is available
only in lending libraries or used book stores. The recent publishing
my big publishers are without any paintings.

    Hi
there are about 5 different sets of ponniyin selvan which came in
kalki during different ages. the advertisements are so revealing
    about the periods.
we should do a tabulation of the years and the artists, one of these
    days.
the original which ran till 1954 april or so is the most valuable. we
all chanced to see one set with an active member of our tours in
    kumbakonam.
in fact some members like swetha didnt even want to leave kumbakonam
wanting to spend some time with those bound books though it was time
    to leave.
i am lucky to have a original set of 'sivakamiyin sabatham'. i am
    told its very valuable.
to me its priceless. and invaluable.

  • I have only one part of Sivakamiyin Sabatham, which im treasuring.
I had the original of 'Sriman Sudharsanam'. But someone took it frm my house and im unable to track it down now. Same goes with 'mannan magal'.
But i do have some good old novels published in Vikatan in 1950's such as 'Prema Haram','Anbin Ellai'. Some in kalki like 'kallukul Eeram'.
also i have 'ChitraValli', 'ChozhaNila' and 'Central(by PVR).
  • Venkat, consider scanning your copy before it is too
late and paper begins to crumble. Scanning is not
illegal, only distribution and marketing is
    copyrighted.

I have some of Lakshmi's novels bound from AV - Pen
Manam, Kanjanayin Kanavu and Latsiyavaadhi. Also
    Tennattu selvangal, and Rajaji' Chakaravarthi
    Thirumagan.

I would very much like to purchase any bound book of
that time, provided it is in good condition.

  • HI
almost a year back i had an access to a treasure trove. a cupboard
which was unlocked nearly after 40 50 years in a remote village in
    chettinaad.
a trove of books, some of them a century old were given to me.
a lot of our friends received their shares. the most benefitted was
plastics chandra who directly made a visit to devakottai itself. his
life long mission of collecting books by his grand uncle suddananada
barathi was helped as he got some very rare books of his in the
cupboard. it helped that suddananda barathi had worked as a teacher
    in devakottai itself.

  • Wow, what a priceless treasure!!
  • Nowadays, atleast to the best of my knowledge, nowhere one could find the Ponnyin Selvan Book volumes with those beautiful painting available in any book stores. So, this e-group, which unites all the lovers of this splendid work of Kalki, could post an e-copy of all its volume (those with panitings) for the benefits of many. I would like to suggest those who own such a copy of the book could scan it and post it on the internetas a free downloadable one.

    …that’s natural progression..isn’t it player to umpire..and third umpire…I
am recollecting the days you fondly called Gokul asTendulkar and me as
cannot remember Sobers…for the posting spree so we have moved on…if you have
Gokuls number can you please text it to me…

You are absolutely right….it has been very hectic…not as busy as you are…

    Deadlines…courses… meetings….more importantly moving to Birmingham….my wife
is not coping with the 180 miles round trip everyday…yes we get three hours
of quality time everyday on the motorway…

A lot of discussions a bit personal at times will catch up surely

    Kind regards
