I saw the film "Gandhi My Father" and immediately associated the relationship with RRC & RJC.
Please understand, I am not comparing the Gandhi vs RRC, I just wanted to understand the relationship between Father and Son, their conflicts if any. I know we would have already discussed it, just wanted to start the discussion again.
In Gandhi scenario, the son was not happy being father's son and he was unknown to the world. In RJC's scenario, he broke his father's records and set his own standards
out of RRC's shadow and do things on his own. One reason is to move the Capital from Thanjavur to Gangai Konda Cholapuram.
If we can discuss Nandhini again and again and again and again :-), hope we can discuss this too for the new members.
I agree with Dr Sri on BK's work. Also a general comment, celebrities including Gandhi rarely make great fathers. There is usually a big hue and cry when their biography is written or someone interviews their children/grandchildren and comes up with some 'holes' in an otherwise perfect character. Noone is perfect. A public figure cannot at the same time be equally devoted to his/her family and it is bound to reflect somewhere as it did in Gandhi's kids.
If we go with traditional ideas of fatherhood per PS itself RRJ's father Sundara Chola does not seem like a great role model father either, other than expecting his children to follow his orders even while bedridden.Aniruddhar seems to have been a better role model to Kundavai and RRJ compared to Sundara Chola, per PS atleast.
There is no yardstick, always Qualities of a father/son duo never will be same. Sometimes son may be too big to his father's shoes or too less comparable. This is evident even in these modern times. RRC was extraordinary in comparison to his father Sundara chola as well his son RJC.
