Making of History - Fiction
  • Dear Vijay,

In the FIRST meet with Dr. Kalaikkovan (about 5 years back) I was
present with Kamal - Ram - Lavanya and a few others (this meet is
mentioned in varalaaru.com too recently) when Dr. Kalikkovan made
observed re Ponniyinselvan Sambuvarayars were not affluent during
Sundara period.. they became so at later period .. ( That way
Kalki erred in bringing out Sambuvaraya at par with
    Pazhuvettarayas .. )..

Then why Aditha Karikalan murder was venued at Kadambur.. because of
Udayarkudi inscriptions found neaby.. (within 4 KM north).

Likewise characterisations leave certain imprints in our mind ::
Sundara - Elderly ailing personality.. ! ( He was Mathiraiyum
Eazhamum konda Parakesari ! Passed away in a Golden palce.. his wife
    committed Sati )

Aditha Karikalan :: Thudukku - less responsible.. (In Alangudi
temple inscription it is mentioned that there was PONMARI during his
    tenure !!)

Sembian Madevi (reminds us of our KB Sundarambal of Avvayar !! Read
Thiruvisalur / Pazhayari inscriptions OF Uthama's period .. she was
handling things as ROYAL MOTHER / QUEEN ! )

Loka @ Lokhamadevi name also figured as one of the Pallava Queens !

The inscription you posted related to her mother :: I remember to
have read this in " Thiruvisalur " inscription ! Rajakesari (RRC ?)

Tho" Venkat mildly touched PANCHAVAN MADEVI was picturised
differently in one of the History - Fictions written by another
    Author.

As we are aware Rajendra had 10 step mothers apart from him mother
Bhuvanamadevi @ Vanathi. PANCHAVAN MADEVI was prominent among them.
Enjoyed status almost Next to Kundavai & Olagamadevi.

This status is derived from the quantum and details of grants to the
    Big Temple.

Panchanvan Madevi gave THANAJI AZHAGAR - an Equivalent of Thillai
    Natarajar !!

She was devotee of Appar. Her servant gave 9 Golden flowers to
Appar Bronze in Thiruppugalur - Repeat her maid servant !!

Rajendra I constructed PALLIPPADAI (Memorial temple) for Her near
    Patteeswararm !

    There is another interesting detail.

Easana Siva Pandithar & his Paasupatha cult desciples were incharge
    of this temple ..

Kulothunga period inscriptons at Sivapathasekaramangalam @ Udayalur
talk in detail that the same cult desciples maintained Udayalur
    temple too !

A lot more details need to UNEARTHED literally !

thanks for your lovely postings re Srilankan expeditions .

Just to recall : It was Narasimha I (Pallava) who made the first
military expedition (recorded) to Srilanka !

prisoner of wars used in construction.

just a contemprory event. while helping my son prepare for his
architectural entrance exams where there are a lot of questions about
monuments inindia and abroad i cam e across this interesting detail.
vidhan soudha in bangalore is rumoured to have been completed with
the help of prisoners from the local jails.
    can anybody confirm the news.

  • Saaaar.....as per recorded evidence(we consider literature also as
recorded evidence) , it was Sri Rama of Ayodhya who made the first
    military expedition to SriLanka....

    Probably Narasimha was the second...

    koncham overa poreno?
  • HI
    appadi paarththa......

ravana made the first expedition. he went to lanka to over throw his
    half brother.

second was anjaneya. over run rate paarthaa he wrecked more damage
    per day than anybody else.
see his achievements. reconnaisance flight was his mission. but he
saw the enemy king, was arrested and tortured, he set the enemy city
on fire, saw the objective of the war ( established contact with the
prisoner of war) and made a return flight the same day

    vidunga sir,

at one point we should demarcate the two.
and speaking of the pallavan what did he do there?
did he go from mahabalipuram- a long journey indeed?

  • Since we talk about Women so much, it is worthwhile to note that Sita
was the first woman to have gone abroad [:p]

and also the first woman to have boarded any flight [:D]
  • Madan,

Ofcourse the latter. I dont believe those Ramayana's where Sita is
supposedly portrayed as daughter of Ravana. The authentic one is only
Valmiki Ramayana. Any other version, which is consistent with this is
    okay for me.

And, my smileys would have conveyed the intent of my earlier message
    [:D]
  • Apples n Oranges

    Two cent pointers...

    Ravana's yugam was different from Narasimha's :-)

Narasimha had no 'please fasten your seat belts' compared to Ravana...

PS: Conceptually however, I have my own apprehensions on the location
of Ravana's lanka vs today's lanka.
  • Hi,

Manavarman was son of kasyapa ii n was exciled fm lanka n was in pallava court as a refugee. He was a close friend of narsima n he fought with him against chalukyas ( pulikesi....understand this means one who was as capable as krishna as a child !!)

Narasimha on his side repaid manavarma loyalty by launching two naval raids on lanka. I think there is some ref that this fleet sailed.from kadal mallai.

Incidentally pullikesi"s son ascends the throne 13 years after the sacking of vatapi....so ..
