INNOCENTLY (Or made to appear innocently) YOU (both) JUST ZEROED ON THE POPULAR VIEW THAT LITERATURE IS INFLATING (OR ALMOST UNCONNECTED TO) HISTORY ... !
Silapathikaram (say 2nd AD)
Chozha's meykeerthis..
Pandyas Meykeerthis.. (say 11th AD)
Mahavamsam ... agree on same fact .. Even though the time-gap is 1000 LONG YEARS ... !
Atleast one concurr on one thing :
If True (from whose point of view ?) History is FIRE, Literature may be SMOKE.. but Not without basic reasoning somewhere down the line..
2 questions: 1) Modhakam is translated as fried pancakes:)? reading it, at first I thought there was a Dosa reference in silappadikaram:)) 2) The tone suddenly changes towards the end, saying the breeze is unlike that from podigil hills.. what is the context?
Small doubt, am not sure if the line 'chives, saffron sandalwood' go together, chives is a food item, spring onions, it is not a perfume. Maybe 'naavikkuzhambu nalangol..' refers to some perfume we are not aware of.
Hi, Modagam is something like idly ...i guessed it should be idly first since it is steamed...idly is steamed...i went through lexicon modagam seems to be a ball made of rice flour and steamed....must be similar to modaga kolakatai of our days with out the inner filling Podigai hills is in the west of madurai ..near present day kutralam.....its entry to chera lands... so it must be reference saying the breeze from chera land is diff from the breeze from madurai....thats my interpretation...or rather ur going in a right way and u havent missed ur direction
Hi, This is what i picked out of wikipedia.....please wiki chives...there is a beautiful picture also of chives.... Culinary uses for chives involve shredding its leaves (straws) for use as condiment for fish, potatoes and soups. Because of this, it is a common household herb, frequent in gardens as well as in grocery stores. It also has insect-repelling properties which can be used in gardens to control pests. It has something to do with odor sure for its insect repelling quality....and its common in grocery store....so it fits into the bill here
It is a herb, it is spring onion what you see in market a grass like onion with small bulbs, usually sold with malli and karuveppalai, inji. it smells strong like garlic/onions. I have no idea how anyone would enjoy that with saffron/musk/sandalwood. There is a misinterpretation somewhere.
Pothigai thendral - i remember reading something from ancient Agathiyar vay mozhi, it had something to do with the kutralam and agathiyar coming down south for the wedding of Shiva. I am searching for that hope to find it soon.

still lost in the greatness of this jewel - if it was sung so highly in the 2nd C ( !!) claiming it to be a gift of the god of gods, imagine its antiquity .....and all through the dark ( kalabarar) times - the diadem stayed in pandyan hands - for another 700 odd years ....no wonder they took so much pain to hide it in lanka - the lankan king must have known its fame - for he too protected it at the cost of his own kingdom.....and its retrival by rajendra ( venkat.....kandamaran enna than unga herova irunthalum....rajendranin meeikirthila azgaaaga vantha varigalai!!!!) must have been such a proud achievement. where could it have gone - must have occupied the the highest pedestal 9 z category security)in the chola coffers - passed down - maybe brought out into the open by kopperunchingan.....or part of the plunder / loot of kafur - or still hidden in some secret vault in gangai konda cholapuram ( cant be big temple right - rajendra had already moved on) or buried under the earth some place....
