  • People goto Las Vegas for just gambling, drink and enjoy, except few,
they just don't care how the hotels are built. The Luxor hotel is
nothing compared to the actual Pyramid from outside, but I read that
they have replicated the Tutankhamun's tomb and treasures "just as
Howard Carter found it in November 1922.", but didn't get a chance and
    confirm on my recent visit.

But they are trying to get rid some of them soon -

  • Americans typically try to visit inside their own country, many cannot
afford to travel outside and a greater number have no clue what is
'really' outside, the elite however prefer to travel and find originals.
A poor model of the pyramid is more than enough for a common american.
They believe in fantasies somewhere in the lines of IV=R (Imagination
x Visualization = Reality) - Disney and many theme parks.
It is unfortunate, however thats what happens when money and power
rules over a period of time. The clock stops ticking and reality kicks
    in soon.
and ethics is for the most part the prime issue for them. Hopefully,
they do not go the Chola way, currently I would say they are
comparitive to Kulothunga 1's period in parallels.
  • Hi Ravi,

Unfortunately for the chola, kulotunga I's period was the beginning of the decline for the chola kingdom. He lost more territories than the kingdom actually had and towards the end of his reign the chola kingdom had began to lose control over their feudatories too.
  • Very interesting.
  • Hi
another point thats quite interesting is how can one copyright
    something that 3000 years old?
i think copyrights expire after sometime.
or is it a patent that the egyptians are talking about.

  • Personally speaking, I would compare the last 10 years of America to
    that reign of K-I.
Any global dominance by sheer power and greed will only bring downfall.
America is a great country, I see the issues that are out in many
countries against minorities and feel its safer here. America can be a
great alternative for any one's mother land. Freedom of Speech,
religion etc are basic needs and the US definitely values the same,
    barring a few exceptional issues.
  • Another issue why people go to vegas than Cairo...
Vegas is safer than cairo, Vegas - you can speak english and there are
other things to do outside of the pyramids.
People such as us in PS Group, can visit both Cairo and Vegas for
different reasons and dissolve into its greatness. however, Vegas is
the safest compromise, a piece of both worlds and the westernized view
of pyramids. Enough for many many people in one life time. After
all...we live only a few years.
  • Some news gleaned from yahoo news on the pyramid copyright issue

the egyptian opposition daily Al-Wafd published an article on Sunday
called for the pyramid shaped Las Vegas hotel luxor to pay a slice of
its lodging and gambling profits to the city of Luxor.

"Thirty-five million tourists visit Las Vegas to see the reproduction
of Luxor city while only six million visit the real Egyptian city of
    Luxor," the paper lamented.

On its website, the luxury hotel describes itself as "the only
pyramid shaped building in the world,"

Hawass, the charismatic and controversial head of Egypt's Supreme
Council of Antiquities, told AFP on Tuesday that the move was
necessary to pay for the upkeep of the country's thousands of
    pharaonic sites.

"The new law will completely prohibit the duplication of historic
Egyptian monuments which the Supreme Council of Antiquities considers
    100-percent copies," he said.

He said that a ministerial committee had already agreed on the law
which should be passed in the next parliamentary session,

I wonder how it can be enforced?

  • Jayanthi,
what Mr. Ravi had told about the amercians-is correct .I had met a history professor there when i went to the u.s . He asked me what do you think about us.when i gave my answer he said -no we are dumb. we do not know any thing
that happens outside.these were his own words. when you say you are from India most of them picture a land with snakes and snake charmers.
on my visit to the grand canyon an american who was travelling with us was chating with me and the question he asked me made me think that the professor was quite correct. the question was how come you speak such good english?you say you are from India?
