In almost all his stories, the hero will be hunted for by someone or some group and the hero will be hiding or running to save himself.
PS - VT runs most of the time, either from Pazhuvetarayar or the abathuthavigal. Magudapathi - He is a freedom fighter and hence is in hideout throughout the story. Also, the vilains chase him to kill him Solaimalai ilavarasi - Same as above. Freedom Fighter and hence is in hideout. Kalvanin Kadhali - kekave venam. Being a thief the hero is in hideout. Alai Osai - Again Freedom struggle, so hideout.
Another common thing is - all stories will have a water body being descibed. Either a stream or river or kulam or odai.
There will be surely a scene related to food, eating.
Even in Kalvanin Kadhali, Kalyani's athai is (partially) deaf. :)
How about the 'Pathu Pannirandu Idiappam & arai padi Thengaipal ' that VT has at Sendhan Amudan's house on his first evening at Thanjai ! The packed 'Thayir Choru' that Paranjyothi carries in SS :)

a) In PS for MANIMEKALAI with VT. b) In SS for SIVAGAMI and MAMALLAN c) In KALVANIN KADHALI MUTHAIYAN and KALYANI d) In SOLAIMALAI ILLVARASI both ILLAVARASI- ILLAVARASAN and KUMARALINGAM and PONNAMAL. e) In ALAI OSAI SURYA with SITA(single sided in Surya's Early days),and THARINI - S.RAGHAVAN.

"FORESTS" are highlighted in kalki's works.many interesting and some turning points in the novel takes place in forests.eg. in PS 1.ilaiya pandian MUDISOOTU VAIBAVAM by NANDINI in THIRUPURAMBIYAM PALLIPADAI. 2.vanthiyathevan's first meeting with arulmozhivarmar happens in a forest. 3.in third part nandini meeting rakkammal ,poonguzhali and amuthan driving ravidasan into pudhaikuzhi.
in parthiban kanavu 1."vikraman in disguise as a vairavyabaari meets some unexpected dangers because of kullan"in second part .this also takes place in a forest. 2."sivanadiyaar discloses that he is nobody other than the maamalla chakravarthi himself to ponnan " in a forest. 3.neelakesi kidnaps arulmozhi rani and holds her in a forest where later sivanadiyaar goes and finds nearer to a waterfalls.
in sivahaamiyin sabatham 1.naaganandi takes away sivagami after she comes out of the surangapathai along with aayanar and enters a graveyard " and sivahaami's home itself is forest.
in kalvanin kaadhali 1.muthaiyan after transforming into a thief lives in forest.and he is caught by the police in forest.
another hold is "YAANAI" 1.in PS , veerapadiya aabathuthavivahalin sathi towards arulmozhivarmar in the form of yaanai in thiruvaarur,aniruthar threatening vaanathi while she travels to nagai soodaamani vihaaram,in second part ponniyin selvan's most of the journey is on yaanai as yaanaipagan evan in the last when he turns the elephant violent and escapes from the gang with poonguzhali ,etc.even in kanavu poonguzhali travels over "INDIRANATHU IRAVATHAM". 2.in SS the very first scene in which paranjothi saves sivagaami. 3.in PK when paarthiban is nearing his last moments.his PATTATHU YAANAI dies witha huge trumpet.
OTHER THING TO BE NOTED IS IN EVERY HISTORICAL NOVEL THERE WILL BE A POOR FAMILY CLOSE TO THE KING'S FAMILY (KNOWING ALL THE RAJARAHASIYANGAL) AND WORKING FOR THEIR WELFARE. eg 1.so many characters in PS ,senthan amuthaninn thaayar loyal to sembiyan maadevi,murugaiyan who later holds bakthi on ilavarasar amv,poonguzhali close to ilavarasar arul mozhi varmar, all ordinary amilies 2."PONNAN,VALLI,VEERABATHIRA AACHAARI" in paarthiban kanavu ,ordinary padhotti and kammaalan. 3."KANNAN,KAMALI,THAATHA" vey close to mahendrar and maamallar-arasar's ratha saarathi
