rajaraja cholan- the movie by sivaji
  • Hi
i dont think the group ever discussed that movie?

we should have considering that was perhaps the only case of RRc
being portrayed on the silver screen
  • Rajaraja Cholan - Drama, written by Kalaimamani Aru. Ramanathan,
    called as Kathal Ramanathan.
(TKS Group made numerous Stage Shows on this Drama and later it was
taken as Movie acted by Shivaji Ganesan
    Music Director : Kunnakkudi Vaidyanathan
This Drama as a book Published by Prema Pirasuram,Chennai-24. is made
as a Study Material in South Indian Universities.
  • Sivaji's RRC is good for the audience who dont know history. I would
say a decently made movie to project RRC in the right sense. Sivaji
overacting in the movie is a different topic altogether.

Why, Indian moviedom, especially Tamil cine field, didnt come up
with a magnum opus on any of the historical stories we have. I think
we have a lot more history than any other country in the world.
While seeing movies like Braveheart, 300, Troy, Gladiator etc, it
gives a sick feeling why Indian movies run around only trees and
waterfalls and duets and hero fighting hundred men at a time.

Atleast in Hindi there was an attempt on Ashoka (though the movie
has nothing to do with real History and would say RRC was much
better than Ashoka). Heard another movie on Ashoka is on cards, Ajay
    Devgan is doing Ashoka.

I think Telugu has fair amount of history films. When it took so
many years to attemp PS atleast as a serial, I think we have miles
    to go.
  • Very good reflection sir. I do wonder about this too.

There was not much talks of real kings in our grandmother stories too.

Probably we had more fiction in our genes.
  • Vineeth will play the title role in a movie titled Uli Osai, which is
based on a story by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

Karunanidhi, who has penned the story, script and dialogues for
several Tamil films in the past five decades, had written a short
story titled Uli Osai. It is based on the life of a dancer.

Now director Ila Venil will direct a film which is based on
Karunanidhi's story and playing the lead role would be Vineeth.
Interestingly Vineeth was also part of Karunanidhi's last film Paasa
    Kiligal.

The shooting for the movie would commence soon.

  • Hi all

I just thought I will post an interesting link I happened to come across. Its probably familiar to some of you but thought i'll share it anyway.
    http://nio.org/projects/vora/project_vora_5.jsp

About the discussions on the movies - I think its just as well that no body made a worthwhile movie on RRC. Great movies can be made of PS and about the life and times of RRC and RC. But these movies will have to be on a truly international epic scale. Otherwise, it will be belittling these true life legends.

I remember writing to History channel once about this. Maybe we can send them a collective mail and provide them information. However, I feel that nothing short of a Steven Speilberg type film will do justice to these legends and the times. The movie should be made in English and Tamil and should have (I think) international artists (internationally aclaimed).

Btw, did anyone see the programs covering RRC and the Big temple on Discovery (or Nat Geo) last week.

    SPS,

I think you got it wrong. The new item says that the short story
written by Karunanidhi is 'Sarapalli Chamundi' and it is being made as
a film named 'uliyin osai'. Probably the director is inspired by Kalki.

    > (Recalling the famous (folk) story that when a Sirpi was
    > concentrating in Big temple work and asked for Vetthilai (beetel +
    > nut + sunnambu (lime) and King giving that combinaion to silpi.
    > Without looking at, Silpi reacting why more Sunnambu and when
    > wanted to spit the residual, King collecting it in a vessel and
    > SIRPI realising that it was none other Emperor RAJARAJA ! )
    >

if you remember right the sirpi is working on a giant nandi- which
was not kept there by rrc but much later.
