This seems similar to the portrayal of bhringi rishi, Bhringi is one
of the attendants (gana) of Siva. According to the Skandapuranam,
it was to annoy his exclusive spirit, that Parvati sought union with
Siva in the form of Ardhanarisvara. But Bhringi assumed the shape of
a bee and pierced his way through the united body of the god and the
goddess, going round and worshipping the Siva portion only of the
hermaphrodite. The goddess avenged herself then by with drawing all
sakti from the zealot, and he is now generally represented as a
skeleton, supporting himself with a third leg, which Siva, out of
    mercy, improvised for him."
  • Hi

nice to have brought up peyar karaikal ammaiyar's topic especially
with reach foundation organising a guided trip to thiruvalangadu this
    sunday
the place and karaikal ammaiyar are so linked.

I wish to repeat here that the only seated saint in the 63 is
karaikal ammaiyar.the first human to reach kailash where shiva called
    her " ammaiye"
karaikal ammaiyar saw the dance of shiva in thiruvalangadu.

Dear Chandra and REACH members making the trip

5 km before thiruvalangadu on the main highway is thiru pachur
another thevara sthalam. old one and might have something to interest
you. see it if you have time.
