hi udaiyar picks up approx 5 years after RRc takes over the reign ( ie 20 years after ending of PS). Its more descriptive of RRc building the big temple - however, you cannot term it as a sequel to PS - most of the characters esp sembian madevi and ravidasan and gang are depicted differently - more like witches and withcraft/black magic etc ... balakumar's narration is more like a social novel set during chola times ( if you want to know how a typical village house would be during those times - you will get a good description running to four pages of it)....also its spread over 5 voluminous parts - ....it lacks the fast paced action of kalki, so found it very difficult to continue reading. while reading kalki, you are transported in time and relive the exploits of VD/tirumalai/ps like a inside a 3 D movie whereas udayar gives you the impression of watching a mandatory newsreel of films division from the last row....vj
