temples not identified
  • i m n chennai. my town name is pallavaram.which s the damaged version
of 'Pallava puram". once upon a time it might be a place ruled by
pallavas. in the interior areas called "zameen pallavaram" there are
some "kugai koils" but not maintained properly. Now itself they are
in a bad stage. why govt. is not taking any step to protect
historical monuments like this. A news came from Dhinamalr recently
about another temple. Like this so many will be there without any
care. again and again they are doing researches and works on the same
place, why they are not showing any interest on these new places.
  • hi

if you can post a few pictures of these would be of help. due to the
prominence of mahabs, we cannot attribute every cave to pallavas.

    note below:

Jains constructed temples and called them Basadis in South India.
Jainism was inbred much more in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu than other
parts of South India. The Jain monks were found seeking solitude to
observe their religious austerities. This led to the formation of cave
temples which formed the habitats for their performance of the
religious rights and penance. The cave temples occupy a significant
position in the Jain architecture and sculptor. The bedrocks
constituted as a pride of place for carving the caves. Many caves of
this types are found around Madurai, Tirunalveli and also South Arcot
districts in Tamil Nadu. The unique character of the natural caverns
draw the attention of the pilgrims. One can also find the presence of
many stone inscriptions and also carvings of Tirthankaras in the walls
of the caverns. The cave temples stand as lithic monuments in the
history of Jainism. The caves served the purpose not only as a place
of habitation for the monks but also for preaching and propagating the
religion at large. The Pandyan kings, chieftains and the civilians
particularly the merchant community were the ardent patrons of Jainism
who built the cave temples in Tamil Nadu, the state well known for its
treasure of Jain cave temples in India. A few Jain cave temples were
converted into Shaiva abode in the latter years.
