Dear Venkatesh A few pointers for the next edition.(Based on PS)
Kandhamaran does not call Vandhiyadevan 'Valla' he calls him 'Vallava'...Valla sounds jarring...
Vikramakesari is Vanadhi's Periyappa not sittappa
Aniruthar only sports a small sandhana keetru not Pattai or Namam..the thing i think you have based your script on is the Rameswaram episode but that was just one
Sevur was not where Veerapandiyan was killed. Sever was AK's first war at the age of 12 but he kills VP later
I ve already raised the issue about Mandhakinis pregnancy
Though the logic sounds better...Pandyas were more challenging and powerful against the Pallavas till Thirupurampaiyam where Vijayalaya turned the tables at that point Thanjavur was under Cholas hence .......you know what I am alluding to dont you
Rakkammal was Murugaiyans wife and just a few years older than Poonguzhali..(Infact she is Revadasan Giramavithans daughter who is the same age as Ravidasan) here you have aged her verymuch and decreased Idumbans age by calling him the same age as PS
I have a question. The genre in which Mr.Venketesh, Kalki, Alexander Dumas are writing in historical fiction. I think the focus should be on giving a fantastic adventure (like PS, 3 musketeers) and not focus too much on the historical details. As long as the deviation is not that big the author can take a few liberties. As long as the adventure is enjoyable and the historical details are not THAT far off we can give the author the credit. I mean such books are NOT meant for the hard core historians but people who can learn a bit of history while enjoying a good book. I mean Sridhar sir, Does it really matter if Anirudhar sports a pattai or naamam or whatever as long his character has not done something controversial to its historical accounts its ok. Its like Vivek comedy in the tamil movie Saami. No offence meant, please dont mistake. Its just that i feel we tend to get a bit carried away by the historical details that we tend to forget that what the book(both PS and KM) has really done. it has revived a forgotten section of tamil history. I prefer history this way a wee bit inaccurate but enjoyable all the same.
Dear Rahul Thank you I very well appreaciate Venkats efforts and acknowledge the hardwork involved... But Criticisms for these works will lawyas be there especially if you add the term
''sequel'' to a magnum opus.....particularly a area where great writers have burnt their fingers...(Vikraman wrote Nandhipura Nayaki as a sequel which didnt go down very well with the fans...of PS Frederick Forsyth wrote a sequeal to the Phantom of the opera which again was criticised)
historic fiction is an art only a few can handle
there are three classes of this
Historic Fiction Fiction in a historic setting Social Fiction in a historic backdrop.
Historic fiction has a historic background and charectors with authors imagination interspersed with historic evidence(PS, Kadal Pura, SS, YavanaRani, Diwakars Vamsadhara,Thirumalai thirudan, Gokuls Rajakesari,Sujathas Ratham ore Niram etc)
Fiction in a historic setting Where most of your charectors are Fictious and the setting is historical a good example is Kannimadam by Sandilyan KM is similar bacuse all the events in the story line are authors imagination except the Temple in Mazhapadi...
Social fiction in hIstoric setting Gokuls Paisasam and Balakumarans Udayar
The points I was raising was just in the storyline and style as it was a declared sequel to PS so these can be amended in the next edition
