Dr. Nagaswamy was Director of Tamilnadu Archlgy Department during MGR Regime. After retirement he was the Vice Chancellor of Kancheepuram University. Now Director of International Institute for Saiva Siddhanta Research, Dharmapuram Adheenam, Mayiladuthurai. Tamil Arts Academy is his Forum.
To bring back a Nataraja statue from the United Kingdom, he appeared as an Expert Witness and based on his expertise the statue was sent back to Tamilnadu by the London High court. Justice Ian Kennedy mentioned in his judgement that "Dr. Nagaswamy, I am satisified, is an unequalled expert in his subject".
He has authored several books in English and Tamil including Master Pieces of South Indian Bronzes, Siva Bhakthi etc. He has delivered lectures in all the leading Universities all over Europe and the USA. Toured Thailand and Combodia and made extensive study of SouthEast Asian Art, Monuments, Religion and inscriptions.
