Pyramid Vs. Thanjai Rajarajeeswaram Vimanam architecture
  • Hi All,

Similarity between Ancient pyramid (around 3000 B.C.) and Thanjai
    Rajarajeeswaram architecture (around 1000A.D.).

During our last trip to Thanjai on Sep'05, most of us able to see /
experience the architecture of Thanjai Rajarajeeswaram temple
vimanam(kopuram) is covered. Layers of stone, with a specific gap
    towards the
    centre.

Today I was watching NGC, Asia, They are showing a programme about pyramid.
Who has constructed the pyramid for the king and etc. When it come to arch
and how it is closed, both the architecture looks like similar. Almost the
same structure and I was bowled out by the similarity.

How is it possible to have the same architecture after 4500 yrs accross the
    zone.. wow
  • hi all
2 photos were posted in the group.

stone support system in red pyramid and the big temple were alike.

    must be builder's common sense

must refer rahul dhinakarans engineering description last month on the
    logic in pyramid construction
  • Hi all

if you want to compare the big temple and the pyramids there is a lot
    more

the largest pyramid in the world is in mexico.( not egypt)
and its height is 217 ft -almost exactly same as the big temple to the
    inches
and guess what its name is.......... CHOLULA
  • INDIA...because most of the temple in India has either the vimanam
or the goupram in Pyramid like structure....

    correcta venkatesh :) I took the simplest route....GUESS.. :)
  • -Hi sathish

temples and their gopurams are not true pyramids.
true pyramids exist in egypt, iraq, iran, mexico from ancient times.

italy, spain, france and greece have it since hellenic times and
    egyptian contact.

but the country with the maximum number of pyramids is SUDAN
  • Yes it is india only. Venkat sir has told me when we last met.

  • Hi;
This seems a very interesting subject or atleast one in which i can
    understand whats going on.
Does anybody what the word "Cholula" means in Egyptian? What does the word
    Chola mean in Tamizh?
  • Hi Rahul,

Cholula - is not in egyptian.. it has its origins in North America, mexico to be exact
  • Ok Nanda. But what is the meaning of of that word? And what does Chola mean?

    Rahul
  • -hi rahul

one interesting theory about the origin of name of the cholas is from
    the lowly hen.

the uraiyur episode where a cockerel bars the entry of the chola king
and he choses that as his capital is a legendary lore.

the chola king was often called koli vendan.

but there could certyaily be other factors for the name.

about the meaning of cholula I sahll give you a link to wikipedia

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Pyramid_of_Cholula
  • CHOLULA

THERE WAS ONE BRANCH OF MAYA CIVILISATION CALLED "CHOL"

The original Nahuatl name was cholöllan, chol-öl-tlan, of which
    possible etymologies are:

[Chol]-[öl(mëcatl)]-[place where happens] meaning something like
"place where the Chol-Olmecs are", referring to the Chol branch of the
    Maya
  • Hi MrVenketesh;
It was fascinating. Regarding both architectures being the same i feel it is
a case of 2 architects working separately on the same problem ending up with
a similar solution. This is a common occurence. Would love to be
    contradicted on this.
  • Hi rahul

    cholula and big temple
there are not many similarities other than the name and the height

that is a step pyramid which now looks like a hill.

and spanish have put a church atop now.

the base is much broader and hence it has the maximum volume of any
    monument in the world.
and it was built over nearly 10 centuries.

however in neigbouring guatemala -bonampak there is a pyramid with a
coridoor and a set of wall frescoes. reminded me of the big temple.
shall post a link in the group.

  • I dont think there is any reason to believe that cholula has any linkages with cholas except for the english spelling ofcourse and the common mistake of identifying native americans with indians..

I did find some articles on the net(dont have the urls now) which were explaining how the native american tribes' art looks similar to the indian arts in terms of motifs colors, patterns, similarities but there has been no scientific proof to link asian indians with native american civilizations.

But one thing, that you should admit is that Cholula pyramid(will provide linkages as soon as I am able to locate it) is built entirely on Vastu principles.. (hehee) now I can feel many people warming up to this idea of being indian driven.

As far as the pyramid structure goes, one plausible explanation is that it being the most safest structure in terms very good load balancing and dispersing mechanism, that it was the default style of constructing large buildings which required to last a couple of milleniums, across continents.
  • Hi nanda
there is another mesopotamian pyramid ( now in iran) called choga.

i too am sceptical on the linkages between these structures. but there
are others who dont think so. very well endowed people like Joseph
Campbell who was an American professor, writer, and orator best known
for his work in the fields of comparative mythology and comparative
    religion.
George Lucas was the first Hollywood filmmaker to openly credit
Campbell's influence. He stated during the release of the first Star
Wars films during the late 1970s that they were based upon ideas found
in The Hero With a Thousand Faces and other works of Campbell.

Joseph Campbell in his Masks of God books says that there is
archaelogical evidence supporting a direct link between Mesopotamian
ziggurats and the pyramids of Egypt. Campbell also states that from
Egypt, the Mesopotamian culture was passed on almost simultaneously on
reached China and from there it crossed the ocean to the pre-columbian
societies of Central and South America, which could explain the
similarities between ziggurats and Mayan pyramids.
  • Hi All,

Here is the link on how the Mayan/Inca structures measure and confirm well to vaastu philosophy of India.. this link is dated to 1995..If there is someone in Thiruvanmiyur, it would be a good idea to visit Mr.Ganapath Sthapathi mentioned in this article at this address, just to verify the authenticity and to receive any other information he may have.
