ASI Restoration at kanchi : Old but interesting article
  • http://www.hinduonnet.com/fline/fl2001/stories/20030117000409200.htm

Pl note the last para which says how ASI actually used a traditional
mix of sand + few other material as construction mix
  • Wonderful article. Worth reading though old..

Now I am more curious about visiting Kailasanathar temple. :-)
  • hi all 2 articles about archeology in hindu today

one is aphoto of the scffolding at tanjore big temple. hope they take
the opportuinty to photograph each statue on t he tower( that is if
they have not already done it)

the second one is further discoveries in yali caves at mamallapuram.

gokul, swetha, sankaran, sathish and I had an opportunity to see the
    excavation half way.

what I was amazed was with the geography.
the temple is but afew yards from the sea line and yet the basement
goes 20-25 feet below the beach sand.
so does it prove the sea was very much away during the sangam periods
    ??

  • Hi Venketesh,

Yes,it should have been away from the current leval.Since most of
pagodas submerged under sea,i guess that itself tells the truth of
sea leval at the Pallava period or Sangam period.
  • Hi,

We must all visit this place. SPS sir, can we plan
    something this week end?
