> Who constructed Ekambareswarar Koil ? > How old is the temple ?
Garbagraha is pallava for sure. Behind the linga there is somaskantha.
If rajasimha is the one who propogated somaskantha in a big way, then it becomes rajasimha period - but we see appar singing here(I think) and Naalur mayanam nearby. So it is pre-rajasimha and Mahendra period
Here parvathi is seen to embrace shiva - thazhuvak kuzhaindhavar.
Dr.Nagasamy writes that he saved a pillar which contains the birudha names of Mahendra. The pillar is in Chennai museum today. It is probably the only pillar of a structural temple containing birudas of Mahendra - suggesting that Mahendra also built structural temples. But nobody other than Dr.Nagasamy has commented about this discovery - so I am not sure about the details of this pillar.
May be chennai friends can visit museum some time...
