History of Sivakami??
  • Hi group,

Does anybody know what happened to Sivakami in Sivakamiyin sabatham. Kalki
will end the story, where Sivakami refuses to marry any humanbeing and
    decides to marry lord shiva.

I have a curious doubt. Does this Sivakami has anything to do with Nataraja
and is she the same as the consort of the deity Nataraja?

Google didn't gave me specific answers, except that it says both Parvatthi &
Sivakami are same, but nowhere I found the history behind sivakami/parvathi.
Interestingly, the representation of Nataraja in the present form (in
dancing posture as found in several places) seems to have started in 10th
    century by Cholas (ref: http://www.exoticindiaart.com/article/nataraja),
which is well after the Pallava period. So, did the cholas depicted sivakami
of ss fame with nataraja to honour her dancing skills and her devotion to
shiva? In which case, sivakami is to nataraja just as andal is to krishna.

Hope there are some historical/archeological evidences. May be I am too
    imaginative.

  • Dear Baskaran,

AFAIK, Sivakami of Sivakamiyin Sabatham is a fictional character. By the
way, she does appear in Parthiban Kanavu (which was written before SS) as
someone who takes care of Mahendravarman Pallava's kids.
  • when you travel along the by pass of mahabalipuram on the ECR on the
left you will see three unfinished pagodas.
that propably gave kalki the idea of a sculptor whose unfinished job
is due to the absence of inspiration( sivakami has been taken away by
    the pulikesi armies)

nadaraja concept is much earlier. all 4 samay kuravar have sung about
chidambaram. the contemprories of this story ss appar and sambandar
    too are inclusive on that.
sivakami is just a dancer named after a goddess.
  • Dear Arun and Baskaran,

As per Parthiban Kanavu, Sivakami took care of "Narasimhavarama
Pallava's" kids after the demise of his wife.

    It is not Mahendravarma Pallava.
