I was introduced to Kalki and PS about a year ago.Ever since , i have been a great fan of the Cholas.I have been trying to read everything on Cholas but what one could clearly see was this book,"The Cholas by K.A.Nilakanta Shastry" is a major work on the Cholas and is a must have for every Chola fan.
Enquiries tell me that the book is no longer in publication. My attempts to grab a copy in Coimbatore Central Library went invain. They dont have a copy.
Disappointed , i bought the "The History of South India" , another work by K.A.N.Shastry.
Does anyone know where i can lay my hands on that book ? Evening prowls in old books shops havent helped either.
Possiblities are they are found in Chennai libraries. Most unfortunately i do no have plans to visit Chennai any soon.
So , does anyone here have it ? Do you know any place or person in Coimbatore who has that book?
This book is reprinted by the Madras University and I bought a copy in the Chennai Annual Book Exhibition ( which happens during early January at Quaid-e-millet college ) in 2004.
This book is printed by University of Madras, edition is 2000, price Rs. 250 /-. No ISBN number on the book. Since it was printed in 2000, only very few copies may be around. So hurry.
Not sure where you would get it in Kovai, but I bought both History of South India and The Cholas by KANS at LANDMARK chennai, perhaps you can contact LANDMARK over the net and arrange the purchase.
It is a great book,no doubt. But from this group itself you can understand that historical evidences have come a long way since KANS wrote it, so it is yet another aficiando's wish that we have a contemprorary work like The chozhas.
KANS was smart that he wrote a book which would appeal both to amateurs and also the academics of history.
