Rajarajan
  • vanakkam,

We all know RRC's name was Arumozhivarman, he had 32 titles and used
the title 'Rajakesari' in all his inscriptions. I have a few doubts.

What was the title he adopted while being crwoned? When was the
title 'Rajaraja Devar' conferred on him?

I read somewhere that the title was given to him by the Dhikshithars
of Chidambaram in his 19th regnal year. Is it true?

  • Dear Swetha
Rajaraja had many titles but the Rajakesari was his pattabishega title He was Ko Rajakesari Rajaraja Cholar
The Cholas alternated Parakesari and Rajakesari as Prefixes
So Rajendra was Parakesai Rajendra Chola

Legend is its after great chola Kings Rajakesari and Parakesari just like how they call themselves sembians after Sibi
  • vanakkam,

Thanks for the info doctor. Any idea which is the earliest inscription
    that contains the term 'Rajarajan'?

That was an interesting question - though I forgot what I have read in
    this reg

Arumozhi thevar takes on the title mummudi chozhan pretty early in his
reign. When exactly is he called rajarajan is something we need to look
    in KA Neelakanta sastri's cholas
