Thiruvidaimaruthur Vaikasi Festival Starts- Paadal Petra Sthalam in the Bank Caveri River
It is 10 miles to the east of Kumbakonam. There are three Idai Marudurs. One is srisailam in Andhra Pradesh, and that is called Mallikarjuna. Another is Ambasamudram – Sputarjunam – in tirunelvelly district. Anjunam means maruda tree and in between the two is Idaimarudur – Madayarjunam. This place has several names – Shanbagaranyam, Sakipuram, Tapovanam, Muktipuram etc.
There is another peculiarity here. A temple will have a Linga in the sanctum and parivara devatas in the temple all around. But here the temples is a sanctum with the presiding Mahalingam. The Vinayagar is at Thiruvalanchuli; Muruga at Swamimalai, Somaskanda at Tiruvarur, Nataraja at Chidambaram, Bairava at Aduthurai, Dakshinamurthi at Alangudi, Chandesa at Thiruappadi and planets at Suryanar coil. Thus the entire Chola nadu is treated as one temple.
