The Sundaravaradar temple built by Pallavas. We have read many articles on this temple, democracy etc.
What is more interesting is that this Vishnu temple was built in Conjunction with the agamic principles by the local agamicas who are well versed in the agamic principles and practices by one truthful Parameswara Takshaka of Pataka. ( ARE 1898 No 50, SII vi no333 ) I think pataka may be the Thiruppatakam ( pandava Perumal) of Kanchi.
Things to note here are
Vaishnava Agamas were in practice in 8th century itself ( 400 years before Sri Ramanujacharya)
The name of the scholar is Parameswara – ( Vaishnava with a name Parameswara)There is one more intresting inscription in Ulagalantha Perumal temple. (ASI 39/1921) It describes Kulothunga 1 ( yes sir, Kulothangu 1 - who is potrayed as an anti vaishnava) . It is like a drama. 39 Long lines. Right from he entering the temple, the golden and silver pots, people giving the golden pot to kulothunga, he pouring water on the hands of the bhattar. The lands of the temple was not used for a long and the king reconfirmed the rights and started cultivation again.
The request was made by 2 of his wives - Adithan Kambadeviyaran Nampiratiyar Thiribhuvanamudaiyar and Adithan Andakuttiyarana Anukkiyar Chozha Kulavalli.
The Grant was given by pouring water in the hands of - Iv azhvarai anadiyaga sri pancharathra sasthirathal thiruvaradhanai panni varum vedapsavanar vamsathil kaliyur kottathu thaniyur sri rajendra chozha sruppethimangalathu sridharcheri gundur pallikondan battan magan kesvabattan merkolla neer varthu aruli -
Now - the mention of Pancharathra agama ( then kalai) even before the bifurcation as Vadakalai /Thenkalai and spread of Sri Ramanuja sidhanta.
Another info - cheri refers to simple house clusters. Thalicheri, Parpanacheri. The name of this parpanacheri was sridharacheri.
Now coming to Our Ramayana
1. ARE 1898- no 14, SII vi 297 – Southern wall of Vaikuntaperumal temple.
Parantaka 14th year, 143th day – year 921-22, Registers a sale of Land – to the temple of Thiruvayodya perumanadigal of Uthiramerur Chathurvedi Mangalam by Kumarasri Uludakumara Peruman of Govindacheri.
The Sabha assembled ( we know that this sabha assembles regularly) remitted all taxes. Any body violates the agreement – 25 Kalanju fine will be levied.
Sivadasan Uthaman Alagapriyan recorded this.
2. There are also references to gifting of a Thiruayothiperuman bronze by Villavan madevi wife of our Partvendran to this temple.
ARE 1898, B2, SII vol iii no 193
The Sabha of Uthiramerur, remitted taxes on lands granted to the lord Thiruvayodhya Perumanadigal – setup by Villavan Mahadeviyar ( Must be an Utsava Moorthi/Metal Image as this temple was in existence much earlier – earlier inscription of Parnataka) – the grant is for sribali and archanabogam.
The Queen paid Purvacharam towards remitting tax ( It must be an one time advance tax). The Madyasta was Sivadasan Ayyayirathu Nootryvan Brahmapriyan ( 5100 – what a name?) Now the temple dose not exist.
