Hi, I have compiled all the cave temples of Mahabalipuram. There are few clarifications needed however when I will compile Rathas in next article then these might be clarified. However I have written down some points where I have doubts: 1. Dharmaraja Mandapa - this is a very primitive cave in style and architecture, however there is an inscription of Atyantakama who is identified as Parameshvaravarman I. Does this seem ok? 2. Ramanuja Mandapa - This cave also gives the similar inscription as of Atyantakama and hence assigned to Parameshvaravarman I by most of the scholars, but this is very advanced in architecture in comparison with former example. 3. Many of the dvarpalas seen in these caves are with front profile, only in Trimurtu cave we found side profile and that seems to be due to space constraint. 4. Atyantkama seems to be the title of many Pallava kings, Mamalla, Parameshvaravarman and Rajasimha. Who could be this Atyantakama of Mahabalipuram? Is this one single king or various kings used same biruda and put things into confusion?
Let's see if we can try to find some answers in next article. All your feedback and comments are most welcome so that I can correct and enhance the article.
