kadalidai- amidst the sea, malaigal thammal adaithu- filled up with rocks, karumamutri- after completing the job thus, thidalidaich cheitha- erected on the the land thus created (after neutralisng the water), Thiru Raamechchurathai- the temple of Rameswaram, thodalidai vaithu - expressing in words, naavir chuzhalgindren- sing with my tongue, thooimaiyindri- without purity, udalidai nindrum pera aivar- the five senses in my body, aattundu naane- controlled by them.

meaning ' Me who am tormented by the five senses, and lack purity, dare to sing the glory of the temple of Rameswaram, erected on the land created by filling rocks into the sea.'

It is amazing that the concept of reclamation ( like in Mumbai), which we speak about as if it is a modern concept was adopted so many thousands of years ago.

As per this 'pathikam' of Thirunaavukkarasar, not only the setu ,but even the temple of Rameswaram stands on the reclaimed land created by Rama with the help of the Vanara Sena.
